A RESOLUTION APPROVING AND RATIFYING THE ACTION
OF THE CITY MANAGER IN EXECUTING THE AGREEMENT
ON NOVEMBER 19, 1975 BETWEEN THE CITY 0P MIAMI
AND FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY FOR THE
POLICC DEPARTMENT INTERN PROIRAM.

Within the Department of Police there is an on -going program of
"internship" which allows college stuuents in criminal justice
major fields the opportunity to observe first hand the operation
of out Department. The Intern Program, is considered valuable
by the administrators of the Li..partnQr.t of Police as well as the
educators at the participating coll(!ges and universities. On
several occasions in the past, ' :: _ or,ission of the City of Miami

(d) :he university may, at its discretion, appoint a
cliniral instructor as required fot any given
•rogram at the Institution who will assist the
clinical coordinator of the University in overseeing
the clinical supervisirli of the students at the
Institution. Clinical supervision may also be
provided for by the Institution from its staff, and
assigned according to Paragraph 2(c) above. The
University reserves the right to review the
qualifications of such persons to assist in the
clinical supervision of the students.
(e) The responsibility of t.l,e institution's staff with
regard to t! - c1iriryl •:-•:i:cricnce of the students
will include:
(1) direct instruction and supervision of the
student according to the respective course
description and/or syllabus, cooperating therein
with the faculty member assigned by the University
to supervise said courser

(4) being available for scheduled conferences with

(f) The University clinical coordinator will make
regular visits to the Institution in order to
coordinate the progress of the clinical experience
and to determine its effectiveness and facilitate
this agreement.
tg) The University on its part agrees further:
(1) to go through the proper channels at the
Institution in planning clinical experience;
(2) to arrange meetings with the appropriate
clinical staff of the institution to whom the
student is directly responsible in order to
review at4d evaluate the progress of the clinical
experience as needed;
t3) to provide methods for student evaluation which
are brief and meaningful; and
(4) to inform the clinical supervisor of the
Institution as to the extent of the student's
academic preparation for the purpose of
assignment of the student to the appropriate
entry level of clinical experience.

and against any and all claims,

that such duty to indemnify and hold harmless shall
be 1inited to the amount of any applicable insurance
coverage maintained by the university and insuring the
University and ita agents, officers, and enployses
against liability to third party; and provided further
that if such coverage is in full force and effect at
such time, the liability of. the College hereunder
shall include the obligation to indemnify and hold
harmless only to the extent that the University shall
have received reimbursement from the undetwriter(s)
of such coverage, or in lieu thereof, such underwriter(s)
shall have specifically agreed to pay the amount or
amounts claimed.

The field experience for Criminal Justice students should
provide:
1. Orientation to the assign e..d department in terms of its
purpose, goals, structure, policy and procedure.
2. Knowledge of responsibilities, duties and activitas of
a professional person in this type of setting.
3. An experience around which the classroom material is
synthesized and made operational through observation
and orientation.
For functioning as a participating and contributing
member of the staff.
S. Discussion with the student, and evaluation by the
clinical supervisor not only as to the knowledge
acquired by the student; but the application of the
knowledge as well as the students developing feelings,
...attitudes, and professional identification as it refers

TERM OF AWNENT: The term of this AGREEMENT shall be

to the next expiration date thereof by giving written notice to
the other party to that effect not later than ninety (90) days
prior to said expiration date.
