New Zoning Ordinance and
City Commission Liaison
The Planning Department and the City's zoning consultants are
scheduling work sessions on the proposed overall revisions to
the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance before the Planning Advisory
Board. The Zoning Board and appropriate City Departments are
also being invited to attend these workshops.
Based on their past experience our zoning consultants, Mr. Fred
Bair and Dr. Ernest Bartle:, strongly recommend that the City Com-
mission formally appoint at least one member to act as liaison and
to be in attendance at the •planning Advisory Board work sessions.
If the Commission considers it advisable at some point to add a
broader spectrum of citizen participation in reviewing this important
proposal, it is recommended that the Commission act now to appoint
a representative citizen's group to attend these workshops. This
arrangement greatly facilitate the public hearing process when the
ordinance cone_ before the City Commission.
The new ordinance contains many innovative features including a land
use intensity system, transfer of development rights, planned develop-
ment districts,and a special public interest district.
To understand these innovative proposals and to allow proper inter-
action between the consultants, Boards and City Departments, the
tentative schedule of workshops will extend from November 16, 1977
to September 20, 1978 (see attached schedule). This item will be
brought up for discussion at the City Commission meeting of December
8, 1977.
