On July 28, 1977, the City Commission approved an ordinance providing for
consultant services to undertake a Miami Riverfront Development Study. The
study, which is being financed from third year Community Development Funds
is being conducted by Wallace, Mclarg, Roberts and Todd and Economics Re-
search Associates, and will examine the Riverfront area from the mouth of
the River at Dupont Plaza to the 5th Street Bridge.
The study will accomplish several objectives, the most important of which
are:
1) The completion of an economic fusibility study for a specialty
center and marina on the River. If the economic analysis is
favorable, as the consultants' preliminary work seems to indi-
cate, the consultants will prepare materials that can be used
for marketing the specialty center or marina to potential
developers.
2) An examination of the market for other kinds of land uses along
the River such as housing, office, retail and entertainment.
3) A thorough, evaluation of possible sites for the proposed specialty
center and marina. The evaluation will consider issues such as
access to transportation, parking, linkages with surrounding
activities, spin-offs or impacts on the surrounding neighborhood,
environmental factors, and costs:
4) An examination of the projected financial performance of a specialty
center and marina development.
I will be giving the presentation on October 20, along with Boris Dramov who is
the Director of the Miami Office of Wallace, Mcliarg, Roberts and Todd. We will
provide the Commission with a status report for the study, as well as some pre-
liminary findings on the above four study objectives. No legislative action is
needed at this time.
