TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH MARIE
PETIT, FOR HER PROFESSIONAL SERVICES, AS
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT TO THE MAYOR,
SUBJECT TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS CON-
TAINED IN THE ATTACHED CONTRACT; WITH FUNDS
THEREFOR IN THE AMOUNT OF $18,000 ALLOCATED
FROM CODE 1190 "OFFICE OF THE MAYOR" OF THE
1977-78 OPERATING BUDGET
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OP'.:'
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby
authorized to enter into an agreement with MARIE PETIT, for
her professional services, as Administrative Assistant to the
Mayor, subject to the terms and conditions contained in the
contract attached hereto and made a part hereof, with funds
therefor in the amount of $18,000 hereby allocated from Code 1190
"Office of the Mayor" of the 1977-78 Operating Budget.

Inn'"S AGREEMtMT made and entered into this
, 1977, by and between THE CITY OF
MIAMI, a municipal corporation located in Dade County, Florida,
hereinafter referred to as the "City", and MARIE PETIT, hereinafter
referred to as the "Administrative Assistant to the Mayor".
W ITNESSET H:
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Miami has.
heretofore authorized the employment of an•Administrative Assistant
tO the Mayor; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission has recommended that a second
Administrative Assistant to the Mayor be employed in such capacity;
and
WHEREAS, the City Commission adopted Resolution No.
on , 1977, authorizing the entering into of an agreement
between Marie Petit and The City of Miami wherein Marie Petit would
be retained as Administrative Assistant to the Mayor;
NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual covenants
and agreements hereinafter set forth, the parties hereto covenant and
agree as follows:
1. That the term of this contract for the services of the
Administrative Assistant to the Mayor shall be for one year, commencing
October 1, 1977, subject to the right of either party hereto to cancel
this contract upon giving thirty (30) days prior written notice to
the other party.
2. That the Administrative Assistant to the Mayor shall
receive compensation for her services at the rate of $15,000.00 per
year with deductions for Social Security and federal withholding taxes,
payable in equal bi-weekly installments.
3. That in the event that this contract is cancelled prior
to September 30, 1978, the Administrative Assistant to the. Mayor shall
be entitled to compensation as provided by this contract, only
to

And ihcluding the last date upon which she shall have tendered services
as such Administrative -Assistant to the Mayor, or the effective date
of cancellation, whichever may be the earlier.
4. If the Administrative Assistant to the Mayor shall be
temporarily incapable of exercising any of the duties or functions
ptescribed herein for reasons other than illness, she shall not be
entitled to any compensation during such period of temporary inability
to perform her duties. If such disability shall be due to illness, the
Administrative Assistant's right to compensation shall continue during
the first 30 consecutive days of such disability, but such entitlement
shall not include the right to compensation for any such period of
disability following such 30 day period.
5. That during the period of this agreement, the Administrative
Assistant to the Mayor shall be entitled to two weeks of paid vacation
to be taken at such time or times as shall be satisfactory to the
Mayor of the City.
6. The Administrative Assistant to the Mayor shall accrue no
Civil Service right or privilege, and shall enjoy no emolument of office
except as expressly contained in this contract.
7. The Administrative Assistant to the Mayor shall not be a
part of the Pension System of the City of Miami, nor shall she accrue
any right or privilege in the Pension System of any type of nature
whatsoever.
8. That the Administrative Assistant to the Mayor shall
perform the duties herein prescribed, and shall devote her entire time
and attention to said duties, and during the period of this contract
shall not engage in any other business or profession.
9. That the Administrative Assistant to the Mayor shall be
wholly responsible to the Mayor of the City of Miami and shall serve
at his will and pleasure, subject to the 30 day notice provision set
forth in paragraph 1 hereof.
10. The Administrative Assistant's duties shall include the

(a) to teceive on behalf of the Mayor inquiries of coplaints
OM pbiiiate citizens:
(b) to prepare at the direction of the Mayot letters,
meiiotanda or other documents as may be required by the Mayor. If the
Mayor desires, these may be prepared for the Mayor's signature. In
the event the Mayor directs or authorizes the Administrative Assistant
to affix his signature to any letter or document, the Administrative
Assistant will indicate that she has affixed the Mayor's signature by
placing her initials beside the signature of the Mayor that she has
affixed to the letter or document.
(c) To represent the Mayor at public meetings when requested
to do so by the Mayor. In such case, the Administrative Assistant shall
have no authority to make any representation or agreement of any kind,
which may or might be binding upon the City or any official or employee
thereof.
(d) To make necessary arrangements for the Mayor involving
appointments.
(e) To perform such other duties as may be specifically
directed by the Mayor.
11.
The Administrative Assistant to the Mayor shall have no
authority, control or direction over any officer, employee or depart -
of the City of Miami.
12. The Administrative Assistant to the Mayor shall have
authority to bind or obligate the City by the execution of any
written instrument or the making of any oral agreement or representa-
tion, except as she may be specifically authorized in writing by the
Mayor or any other person who shall be authorized to enter into such
agreement or to make such representation.
13. The Administrative Assistant to the Mayor shall be
subject to the provisions set forth in Section 4(c) of the Charter of
the City of Miami and of all ordinances of the City pertaining to
conflict of interest.
14. That in the event of cancellation of this contract by
either party hereto, the aforementioned thirty (30) days notice of
such concellation shall be given in writing addressed to the other
party as follows;
