A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
RECEIVE THE AMOUNT OF $4,373,000 FROM THE U:S,
DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE THROUGH ITS ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION OFFER OF GRANT
DATED SEPTEMBER, 1977 FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI/UNIVER-
SITY OF MIAMI JAMES L. KNIGHT INTERNATIONAL CENTER
WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE
CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT AND RECEIVE BIDS AND AWARD
CONTRACTS FOR THE VARIOUS PHASES OF CONSTRUCTION
OF THE AFORESAID CITY 01 i?IAHT/UNIVERSITY of MIAMI
JAMES I,. KNIGHT INTERNATIONAL CENTER, WITH FUNDS
.THEREFORE TO BE EXPENDED FROM TITLE I FUNDS
PURSUANT TO THE AFORESAID GRANT; SUBJECT
TO THE APPROVAL OF THE CITY COMMISSION PRIOR TO
THE EXECUTION OF THE AFORESAID CONSTRUCTION CONTRAGTSJ
WHEREAS, the City of Miami has received an Offer of
Giant dated September, 1977 from the U. S. Department of Com-
merce in the amount not to exceed $4,373,000 for the constru e
tion of the City of Miami/University of Miami James L. Knight
International Center within the City of Miami; and
WHEREAS, construction must be under way within 90 da►S-
from September, 1977; and
WHEREAS, these funds could be lost if the City does not
comply with the schedule; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the City that the
City Manager be authorized to accept the aforesaid grant and to
receive bids and award contracts to the lowest responsible
bidders; and
WHEREAS, regular procedures will be ; ollowed

WHEREAS, all actions taken by the Manager wit •e s'bse-
quently presented to the City Commission for ratification;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to
receive the amount of $4,373,000 from the U. S. Department of
Commerce through its Economic Development Administration Offer
of Grant dated September, 1977 for the construction of the City
of Miami/University of '.liami James L, Knight International Center

§eCtiOn 2: 'Y'he City Manager is hereby authorized t6
aeeept and receive bids and award contracts for the various
phases of construction as may be necessary for the aforesaid
construction of the City of Miami/University of Miami James L.
Knight International Center, with funds therefor to be expended
from Title I funds from the U. S. Department of Commerce through
the Economic Development Administration pursuant to the aforesaid
Grant dated September, 1977, subject to the approval of the City
Commission prior to the execution of the aforesaid construction
contracts.
