HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-77-0793RESOLUTION NO. 7 7 " ( 9 S A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO RECEIVE THE AMOUNT OF $3,193,000 FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE THROUGH ITS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION OFFER OF GRANT DATED SEPTEMBER 16, 1977 FOR FINANCIAL ASSIST- ANCE IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW ADMINISTRATION BUILDING WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI; FURTHER AUTH- ORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT AND RECEIVE BIDS AND AWARD CONTRACTS FOR THE VARIOUS PHASES OF CONSTRUCTION OF THE AFORESAID ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, WITH FUNDS THEREFORE TO BE EXPENDED FROM TITLE I FUNDS PURSUANT TO THE AFORESAID GRANT; SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE CITY COMMISSION PRIOR TO THE EXECUTION OF THE AFORESAID CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS. WHEREAS, the City of Miami has received an Offer of rant dated September 16, 1977 from the U. S. Department of Commerce in the amount not to exceed $3,193,000 for the con- struction of a new Administration Building within the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, construction must be under way within 90 days from September 16, 1977; and WHEREAS, these funds could be lost if the City does not comply with the schedule; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the City that the City Manager be authorized to accept the aforesaid grant and to receive bids and award contracts to the lowest responsible bidders; and WHEREAS, regular procedures will be followed if at all applicable; and "DOCUMENT J IfDEX Q.• .. WHEREAS, all actions taken by the Man�J1 quently presented to the City Commission for ratification; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to receive the amount of $3,193,000 from the U. S. Department of Commerce through its Economic Development Administration Offer of Grant dated September 16, 1977 for the construction of a new Administration Building within the City of Miami. MM 1 ■ Sec'tic5n 2. the City Manager is hereby authorized to Ae ept and receive bids and award contracts for the various phases of construction as may be necessary for the aforesaid Construction of a new Administration Building, with funds therefor to be expended from Title I funds from the U.S. Department of Cotltnerce through the Economic Development Administration pursuant to the aforesaid Grant dated September 16, 1977, subject to the approval of the City Commission prior to the execution of the aforesaid construction contracts. S. Department of Commerce. These grants are for a new Administration Build- ing, in the amount of $3,193,000 and a City Convention Center amounting $4,373,000, representing $7,566,000 that was available to the City, in the 2nd round funding for Local Public Works Grants. This makes a total of $14,034,237, for which the City has qualified under this Federal Grant program. The City will add to this amount $6,527,723 of Local Funds specifically committed to these projects.
