At the Friday hearing, prosecutors did not an- nounce whether they will appeal the judge's ruling in the case of Daisy Link, 30, but said they are "having conversations" with the Florida Attorney General's Office. Miami -Dade Circuit Court Judge Lody Jean granted Link a new trial because Link was "preju- diced" by photos that prosecutors showed jurors -hoping to discredit her self-defense claim -de- spite the photographs not being introduced as evi- dence, according to an order filed in court Thurs- day aftemoon. Jean presi- ded over the trial. Prosecutors, Jean said, have 30 days to decide if they will file an appeal to the 3rd District Court of Appeal. link, who was in orange jail attire and re- strained by pink hand- cuffs, sat quietly through- out the brief hearing. Jean told the attorneys to reconvene next Friday fora hearing about the possible appeal. In October, a jury con- victed Link of second- degree murder for killing her husband, Pedro Jime- nez, 33, outside her Home- stead residence in June 2022. Link shot Jimenez once in the leg During closing argu- ments, prosecutors used the four photographs at Daisy Link listens during a hearing for a new trial at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building on Friday. the center of the contro- versy to discredit the testi- mony of Link's mother, the order says. The photos showed Link's home with no broken windows or damage. However, Link's mother testified that Jime- nez had broken into Link's house through a window. In her order, Jean said "the errors deprive of a fair and impartial trial and likely materially contrib- uted to the jury's finding of &Oh„ "[The photos] came at a critical time in the trial, during the closing argu- ment which was almost impossible to retort ...," Jean said. "Not only was un-admitted evidence presented to the jury, but it was also coupled with argument used directly to discredit [Link's] self-de- fense claims [from] a key witness in the case - [Link's] mother." Link's defense attomey claimed she acted in self- defense when she shot il enez, who was her husband of nine years and had allegedly brutally beat her days before the killing. Prosecutors, however, painted a drastically differ- ent picture of the murder, alleging that Link killed her husband because she wanted to end theirrela- tionship. During her trial, Link took the stand in her own defense, testifying about the moments leading up to the shooting. Jimenez, she said, grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the ground in a drug -fueled rage over infidelity. The couple's almost decade -long relationship, Link said, was marred by domestic violence. Howev- er, she said she didn't call police on Jimenez because she feared he would be deported. "I took a shot. I initially aimed towards the floor as I lifted the gum," Link said Police say drunk driver who struck, killed woman in December turns himself in BY SYMENA ALAVER mmawver@m,aminerwamm A 21-year-old dnmk Testa Cybermtck driver, who was clocked at nearly 100 mph when he ran a red light and killed a wom- an in December, tumed himself in on Thursday, the Miami -Dade Sheriff's office said. It's not the first time he's been in trouble for speeding. Dayron Ramirez -Mesa was the only person in the 2025 Cybermtck when he struck two cars as they attempted to make a left turn on Dec.14. He ran the red light at nearly 100 mph in a 40-mph zone at 8:15 a.m. near Southwest 122nd Avenue and 56th Street, according to his arrest affidavit Ramirez -Mesa is the registered owner of the Testa, the sheriffs office said Friday. A Kendall neighbor said Friday he would make small talc with Ramirez - Mesa and had seen him drive a Mustang and an Audi, but no Cybertruck. A woman who answered the door at the Kendall ad- dress listed on Ramirez- Mesa's arrest affidavit said Friday he no longer lives at Dayron Ramirez -Mesa the home. She said she is his aunt On early Sunday morn- ing on Dec. 14, Ramirez - Mesa was heading west on Southwest 56th Street while Dayana Abreu Perez was in a 2024 Hyundai Sonata in the southbound outside left -turn lane. In the inside left -turn lane was Amarlis Avila driving a 2012 Toyota 4Rtmnerwith passenger Lilian Emiques. Both cars moved forward when the light tamed green. Ramirez -Mesa bar- relled through the intersec- tion, sideswiping the 4Rtm- ner before crashing into the driver's side of the Sonata, deputies say. The Sonata spun before striking a concrete median. Video footage from a near- by church showed Rami- rez -Mesa getting out of the Cybemucc. Miami -Dade Fire Rescue arrived and transported Abreu Perez, 40, to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where she died. When deputies reached Ramirez -Mesa, they smell- ed alcohol and noticed his bloodshot eyes. Results of his blood alcohol test showed alcohol levels of .180, .108, and .081 from three different samples; the legal limit is 0.08. On Thursday, Ramirez - Mesa turned himself in at MDSO headquarters in Doral. He is charged with DUI manslaughter and reckless vehicular hom- icide. If convicted, he ould face up to 15 years in He remained jailed at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Friday aftemoon. Court records show a judge set his bond to $75,000, he will need to remain on house arrest once he's released and has a no driving order. He has since pleaded not guilty and his attorney, Eric Matheny, refused to comment when readied by the Miami Herald on Friday.
