This memorandum is for the purpose of recommending to you a
method of funding acquisition of radio equipment for the
Building Department and the Police Department.
A. Building Department
The Building Department has requested 42 four -channel
radios to provide for more efficient assignment and
monitoring of the field inspectors. The Department of
Management Services has examined three options for
funding the Building Department's request. The options
are: (1) outright purchase; (2) lease purchase; and
(3) acquisition of radios that the Police Department
is planning to replace, and purchase of related equip-
ment. The Police radios will become available because
that department plans to replace four -channel radios
with eight -channel radios.
Over a seven-year period, the length of time in which a
lease purchase would be completed, we have found that
Option No. 3 - accuisition of Police Department radios
and the purchase of support equipment - would be the least
expensive. The following is a seven-year cost comparison
of the three options:

For accomplishment of Option No. 3, the only Commission action
required is authorization of a contingency appropriation to the
tuilding Department in the amount of $12,587. A proposed resolution.

Police Department
The 42 eight -channel radios to be acquired by.the Police .Depart-.
ment will be purchased under the State Contract::_76-4-8., The
radios are made by Motorola.
