A RtgOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO EXECUTE ¶rHT ATTACHED AGREEMENT WITH THE
UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI AND TIE PUBLIC HEALTH
TRUST OF DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, FOR THE
PROVISION OF CERTAIN SERVICES IN CONNEC-
TION WITH THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE
OFFERED BY THE RESCUE DIVISION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI FIRE DEPARTMENT; FURTHER
AUTHORIZING EXPENDITURE OF $10,000 FOR THE
YEAR BEGINNING APRIL 1, 1977 WITH FUNDS
THEREFOR ALLOCATED FROM THE 1976-77 VIRE
DEPARTMENT BUDGET.
IT RSOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THECITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized
to execute the Agreement attached hereto and made a part hereof
between the City of Miami, the Public Health Trust of Dade
County, Florida, and the University of Miami, for the provision
of certain services in connection with the Emergency Medical
Service provided by the Rescue Division of the City of Miami
Fire Department.
Section 2. The expenditure of $10,000 is hereby
authorized to be paid to 'the University of Miami for the pro-
vision of aforesaid services for the period of 1 year beginning.
April 1, 1977, with funds therefor from the 1976-77 Fire Depart-
ment Budget.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 12th day of May, 1977.

AGREEMENT, trade and entered nto this 1th day of
1977, by and between the•city- of Miatni, a tttiti
corporation of the State of Florida (hereinafter referred to
"City"), the public Health Trust of Dade County, Florida
(hereinafter referred to as the "Trust") which operates Jackson
Memorial Hospital, and the university of Miami (hereinafter referred
as; the "University").
WHEREAS, the City and the
Agreement providing for certain services in connection with the
emergency medical service provided by the Rescue Division
Miami Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, by virtue of problems which have arisen out of
the change in the availability and cost of malpractice insurance
coverage and the arrangements which have been made for protection
against malpractice claims by the Trust and by the University it is
necessary to change the said contract and also is necessary to add
thereto as a party the Trust;
NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the premises and the
promises, mutual covenants and obligations hereinafter set forth and
subject to the terms and conditions hereinafter stated, the parties
hereto agree as follows:
A. The University agrees to perform the following services:
1. To provide a qualified Senior Medical Advisor accept-
able to the City as assigned by the Chairman, Department of Surgery,
to supervise, coordinate and staff, on a 24-hour basis, the Emergency
Medical System of the City of Miami. Such Senior Medical Advisor or
his alternate (provided for in Paragraph A-2) shall supervise house

2. To provide alternate physidiatis, acceptable t6 the
SehiOr Medical Advisor and to the "ire Department, in order to
ensure that qualified relief supervision is always provided ditrinig
the Senior Medical Advisor's absence from the System.
3. To compensate the Senior Medical Advisor with what-
ever additional compensation is deemed appropriate beyond his reg-
ular salary from the University. The Senior Medical Advisor will
receive no direct compensation for his services from the City.
4, The Senior Medical Advisor and each alternate shall.
fluent in the English language and qualified to practice medicine
at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
. The Trust agrees to perform the following services:
To provide the necessary house staff members of Jackson
Memorial Hospital, each of whom is to be a physician qualified to
practice medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital and who is fluent in
the English language, on a 24-hour basis to immediately respond to
medical emergency radio transmissions from the Miami Fire Department
Rescue Units operating under the Emergency Medical System of the
City of Miami.
The City agrees'to do the following:
1„.,To pay to the University as compensation .for the

in,quarterly installments.
2, To supply all necessary materials and clerical help
to ensure the successful continuation of the program.

1. The City agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the
University, Dade County and the Trust against any and all liabilities
arising out of the negligence by employees and/or personnel of the
City which may arise during the period that care, custody and cone

and compensation of each participant and their 'rela-
tionship to each other.'
The previous contract expired on February 28i 19977. This
Contract is the result of several meetings by the. parti-
.cipants and, their', respective -legal staffs and has already
been executed by the,. Public Health Trust and the Univer-
sity of .Miami.
