WHEREAS, Section 19-A of the Charter of the City of Miami
provides that the City Commission may create new departments or
discontinue any department or determine, combine and distribute
the functions and duties of departments and subdivisions; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Commission to exercise
such authority and to determine certain functions and duties
assigned to the Communications Department so that the City Manager
may by directive insure the orderly development of a computer
based, integrated information and telecommunication system in
order that the public may be served in a more efficient and
economical manner;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OP THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That present Section 2-29 of Chapter 2, Division
2. Department of Communications of the Code of the City of Miami
is hereby repealed and new section 2-29 is hereby created,
determining the functions and duties of the Department of
Communications: 1/
Section 2-29. The Department of Communications is charged
with the responsibility to provide support and assistance to
city departments by performing the following functions: instal-
lation and maintenance of communication equipment; installation
and maintenance of other related equipment as the City Manager may
directs direction and control of such communications facilities
as the City Manager may direct; and provision of such telephone
services and information dispatching services as the City Manager
may direct. The Communications Department shall support and

Section 2. That if any clause, sentence, paragraph, sec-

court of competent jurisdiction, such judgment shall not effect,

in its operation and effect to the specific portion involved in
the controversy wherein such judgment was rendered.
Section 3. All ordinances, code sections or parts thereof
in conflict herewith, insofar as they are ih ctnflicr, are
hereby repealed.
