City of Mia i Soards acid • Cocl1 itteet OissFEazktEs EticLasults: This Office has just completed a review of all City Of Miami S Satds and Committees to determine the number and degree of activity of each. ohe. Doting the course of this teview, it was rated that there does riot appear to be any official differentiation as to what constitutes a "Board" or a Committee," although the majority of the Boards have been created by Ordinance and are utandated by either the Charter or Code, while only four "Committees" (Cultural Arts Advisor. Committee, Self -/assurance Co$'.t`iittee, Specifications Committee and Substance Abuse Committee), were created by Ordinance. It teas also noted that a few of the Boards were created by kesolution. Section S8 of the City Charter simply states: "The commission may, at the request of the city manager, appoint boards or cortnissions, to be composed of such number of citizens as the commission nay deer:, expedient to act in an advisory capacity in conjunction with any one or more of the departments created or authorized hereby. The members of all such boards and commissions shall serve without compensation, and may be removed at any time by a majority vote of the commission." Since no official differentiation does exist, this report on our review will group boards and committees together. At present, our records indicate there are at least 60 various Boards/Committees, having some degree of official status.
