Re: Catherine Cathers application to City of Miami Art in Public Places Board
Dear Mr. Nunez:
I retired from the City of Coral Gables in 2019. Prior to that I was the Historical Resources and Cultural
Arts Director. In that capacity I worked very closely with Catherine Cathers and have known her for
fifteen years. She is the Arts and Culture Specialist for the City of Coral Gables and staffs the Coral
Gables Cultural Development Boards and Arts Advisory Panel. She managers the Art in Public Places
Program and is the Administrator for the Cultural Grants Program for the City. It is because of Catherine
that the City of Coral Gables has received event recognition by Art Basel since 2016. She has also been
recognized by the City as Employee of the Month.
She is the ultimate multitasker and was a pleasure to work with. She is extremely competent —
organized, passionate and knowledgeable about art. Now, as a resident of Coral Gables, I eagerly watch
for the latest art acquisitions knowing that Catherine has it all under control. She's wonderful with the
residents and the elected officials which is sometimes not easy.
In summary, I highly recommend Catherine Cathers for the City of Miami Art in Public Places Board. She
will definitely be a valuable asset to the Board and I am proud to call her my friend.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Catherine Cathers. As a
member of Coral Gables' Arts Advisory Panel I have had the good fortune to work directly with
Ms. Cathers for the past three years. I am also a member of the City of Miami's Art in Public
Places board and can say with confidence that were Ms. Cathers to join the board we would all
benefit greatly from her expertise and insight.
Ms. Cathers' knowledge, talent and drive allow her to adroitly navigate the complex waters that
commissioning art for the public entails. She considers and addresses the needs of the public,
business owners, city officials, board members, and, equally important, artists. Given all the
hurdles involved I am constantly in awe of her ability to efficiently move challenging projects
forward with immense respect for all parties and budgets.
Equally critical to Ms. Cather success is her warm and personable demeanor and her ability to
provide concise overviews of complex issues.
1 would be happy to speak at length about Ms. Cathers many attributes and can be reached at 786
271-9512.
With thanks and kind regards,
Juan Valadez
