HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-26-0044City of Miami Resolution R-26-0044 Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 18759 Final Action Date: 1/22/2026 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, BY A FOUR -FIFTHS AFFIRMATIVE (4/5THS) VOTE, PURSUANT TO SECTION 54-137 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE") WAIVING THE RESTRICTIONS CO -DESIGNATING SOUTHWEST 20 STREET FROM SOUTHWEST 36 COURT TO SOUTHWEST 32 PLACE AS "BOB VALLEDOR LANE" IN HONOR OF ROBERT VALLEDOR'S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CITY OF MIAMI; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY ACTION TO EFFECTUATE THE CO -DESIGNATION; AND FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED OFFICIALS. SPONSOR(S): Commissioner Ralph "Rafael" Rosado WHEREAS, Robert "Bob" Valledor has been a devoted resident and business leader in the City of Miami for over 50 years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Valledor has served as President of Valledor Co., Realtors since 1973, guiding the firm in providing comprehensive real estate and property management services throughout the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, under his leadership, Valledor Co. has contributed significantly to the vitality of Miami's real estate landscape, fostering growth, development, and community stability; and WHEREAS, Mr. Valledor has consistently supported local nonprofit organizations through both financial contributions and active volunteer service, demonstrating a deep commitment to enhancing the well-being of Miami's underserved communities; and WHEREAS, he has participated in mentorship programs, offering guidance to numerous young professionals and emerging real estate agents, thereby fostering professional development and ethical standards in the industry; and WHEREAS, Mr. Valledor has also served on local civic boards, including the City's Nuisance Abatement Board for approximately 15 years, and charitable boards, working with community partners to spearhead initiatives focused on affordable housing, economic opportunity, and youth outreach; and WHEREAS, his leadership in organizing annual community events —such as neighborhood clean-ups, first-time homebuyer seminars, and scholarship fundraisers —has brought together residents and business leaders in a shared effort to improve quality of life across Miami; and WHEREAS, Mr. Valledor has championed housing initiatives aimed at increasing access to affordable homeownership, advocating for programs that assist first-time buyers and promote equitable housing opportunities for Miami families; and City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File ID: 18759 (Revision:) Printed On: 2/3/2026 File ID: 18759 Enactment Number: R-26-0044 WHEREAS, Mr. Valledor's unwavering dedication to civic responsibility and philanthropic engagement has earned him widespread respect and has set a powerful example of community stewardship; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami recognizes and appreciates Mr. Valledor's longstanding dedication to economic development, social equity, and the overall enrichment of our community and in honor thereof, co -designates Southwest 20th Street from Southwest 36th Court to Southwest 32nd Place as "Bob Valledor Lane;" and WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 14317, adopted on September 26, 2024, provides that the restrictions related to street co -designations, including the distance requirements, contained in Section 54-137 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida ("City Code"), may be waived by a four -fifths (4/5ths) affirmative vote of the City Commissioners, or an unanimous vote of the quorum that exists because of either abstentions or vacancies resulting from resignation, death, suspension, or physical incapacitation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission, by a four -fifths (4/5ths) affirmative vote, waives the restrictions related to naming streets after living individuals, and hereby co -designates Southwest 20th Street from Southwest 36th Court to Southwest 32nd Place as "Bob Valledor Lane" in honor of his dedicated service and lasting impact on the community. Section 3. The City Manager is directed to take all necessary steps to effectuate this co - designation, including the installation of appropriate signage. Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, and Solid Waste; the Miami -Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works; the Miami -Dade County Commissioner of District 7; the United States Postal Service; and, if a State of Florida road, to the Florida Department of Transportation, District Six, for sign installation within the newly designated roadway. Section 5. If any section, clause, or provision of this resolution is declared invalid, the remainder shall not be affected and shall remain in full force and effect. Section 6.
