A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING A
DONATION TO THE "DO THE RIGHT THING" PROGRAM, IN THE AMOUNT
OF ONE HUNDRED SEVENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($170,000.00);
ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND,
PROJECT NUMBER 19-690001, AWARD 1169, AND ACCOUNT CODE
12500.191602.883000.0.0, WITH SUCH EXPENDITURES HAVING BEEN
APPROVED BY THE CHIEF OF POLICE AND IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE
DIRECTIVES PROVIDED IN SECTION 932.7055, FLORIDA STATUTES, AS
AMENDED.
WHEREAS, Section 932.7055, Florida Statutes, authorizes the expenditure of forfeiture
cash or proceeds for certain law enforcement purposes not considered normal operating
expenses; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Section 932.7055(5)(c)(3), Florida Statutes, a
local law enforcement agency that acquires at least Fifteen Thousand dollars ($15,000.00)
pursuant to the Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act within a fiscal year must expend or donate no
less than twenty-five percent (25%) of such proceeds for the support or operation of any drug
treatment, drug abuse education, drug prevention, crime prevention, safe neighborhood, or
school resource officer program or programs; and
WHEREAS, local law enforcement agencies have the discretion to determine which
program or programs will receive the designated proceeds; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 932.7055(5)(c), Florida Statutes, the recipient of such
proceeds shall certify that funds appropriated will be used lawfully and for the purpose stated,
be required to maintain proper accounting records for the expenditure of such monies, and
provide any reports, including but not limited to audit reports, as may be required; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") Police Department ("MPD") deems it is imperative
to provide the City's youth a positive incentive program aimed to support crime prevention, safe
neighborhood, and safe schools programs; and
WHEREAS, the Do The Right Thing program is a national and international program
with 71 chapters that recognizes and rewards students for their positive behavior, actions, and
good deeds in partnership with law enforcement ("Program"); and
WHEREAS, the Program's mission is to foster positive relationships between the City's
youths and local law enforcement agencies; and
WHEREAS, the Program directly impacts approximately 6,000 local students in over 300
schools each year through its awards program; and

WHEREAS, the funds necessary for the success of the Program to cover expenditures
have not been included in the MPD's general operating budget and are available in MPD's Law
Enforcement Trust Fund ("LETF"); and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended adoption of this Resolution and has
determined that this expenditure of funds complies with Section 932.7055, Florida Statutes;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The funding of the "Do The Right Thing" program is hereby authorized' to be
allocated from MPD's LETF Project Number 19-690001, Award 1169, and Account Code
12500.191602.883000.0.0, in an amount not to exceed $170,000.00, such expenditures having
been approved by the Chief of Police in compliance with Section 932.7055, Florida State
Statutes.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
