'RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE
THE AGREEMENT FOR FISCAL YEAR 1978-79 WITH MERCY
HOSPITAL, INC. FOR ITS PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS OF CITY
OF MIAMI FIREFIGHTERS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS
AND CONDITIONS SET FORTH IN THE SAID ATTACHED AGREEMENT
WITH FUNDS THEREFOR ALLOCATED FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
BUDGETED FUNDS TO COVER THE COST OF SAID EXAMINATIONS.

Request for kesolution
It is requested that a Resolution be placed on the September 28, 1978,
Commission Agenda authorizing the City Manager to continue the agree-
Ment with Mercy Hospital to provide physical examinations for Fire
Fighters, and Officers at a cost of $110.00 per examination.
The principal feature of these physicals is a cardiac stress test.
Mercy Hospital provides stress electrocardiograms, resting electro-
cardiograms, chest x-ray with interpretation, urinalysis, blood
chemistry-C.B.C., S.M.A.C. 20 profile. The stress test is monitored
and interpreted by a cardiologist.
Recommendations are being made to individual Fire Fighters concerning
weight reduction, smoking withdrawal, guidelines for exercising,
further follow-up and any other pertinent suggestions involving
patients. Results are being forwarded to City Medical to become
part of the individual's medical records.
Early detection and treatment of health disorders has shown this
to be an effective health maintenance program.
