A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA ("MIAMI DDA") TO PURCHASE TWO (2) HORSES
FROM INNERCOASTAL LIVESTOCK, INC. FOR THE CITY OF
MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT MOUNTED UNIT IN THE AMOUNT
NOT TO EXCEED THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($30,000.00) TO
BE ASSIGNED SOLELY WITHIN THE GEOGRAPHIC BOUNDARIES
OF THE MIAMI DDA BRICKELL DISTRICT; FURTHER
AUTHORIZING THE CEO/EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO EXECUTE
ALL DOCUMENTS NECESSARY FOR SAID PURPOSE, SUBJECT TO
CITY ATTORNEY APPROVAL AND CITY COMMISSION
APPROVAL.
WHEREAS, the Downtown Development Authority of the City of Miami ("Miami DDA") desires
to continue its agreement with the City of Miami for the provision of enhanced law enforcement services
within the geographic boundaries of the Miami DDA; and
WHEREAS, the Miami DDA seeks to continue enhancing public safety and improving the quality
of life for residents, business owners, and visitors within the Brickell District of the Miami DDA; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Police Department's Mounted Unit utilizes horses throughout
Downtown Miami to increase police visibility, facilitate community engagement, and provide effective
patrol coverage in areas that are difficult to access by vehicle; and
WHEREAS, mounted police officers are uniquely positioned to deter crime, respond quickly to
incidents in crowded urban environments, and foster positive interactions with the public, thereby
strengthening trust between law enforcement and the community; and
WHEREAS, the Miami DDA desires to allocate two (2) horses to the Brickell District, within the
Miami DDA boundaries, to expand the Mounted Unit's presence, further enhancing public safety,
promoting a welcoming atmosphere, and supporting the overall vibrancy of the area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Board of Directors of the Miami DDA authorizes the CEO/Executive Director to
negotiate and execute the purchase of two (2) horses from Innercoastal Livestock, Inc. for the City of
Miami Police Department Mounted Unit within the in the amount not to exceed thirty thousand dollars
($30,000.00) to be assigned within the geographic boundaries of the Miami DDA Brickell District; further
authorizing the CEO/Executive Director to execute all documents necessary for said purpose, subject to
the City Attorney approval and City Commission approval, as may be necessary for said purpose.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
