FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT MOUNTED UNIT ("MPD") TO BE ASSIGNED SOLELY WITHIN THE GEOGRAPHIC BOUNDARIES OF THE MIAMI DDA BRICKELL DISTRICT; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DESIGNATE THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO APPROVE THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS ALLOCATED TO THE PURCHASE OF TWO (2) HORSES FROM INNER COASTAL LIVESTOCK AND NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE ANY AND ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, ALL IN FORMS ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR SAID PURPOSE. FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT MOUNTED UNIT ("MPD") TO BE ASSIGNED SOLELY WITHIN THE GEOGRAPHIC BOUNDARIES OF THE MIAMI DDA BRICKELL DISTRICT; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DESIGNATE THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO APPROVE THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS ALLOCATED TO THE PURCHASE OF TWO (2) HORSES FROM INNER COASTAL LIVESTOCK AND NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE ANY AND ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, ALL IN FORMS ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR SAID PURPOSE. WHEREAS, Downtown Development Authority of the Miami ("Miami DDA") seeks to continue to increase public safety and the quality of life for residents, business owners, and visitors within the Brickell District of the Miami DDA; and WHEREAS, on September 18, 2025, the Board of Directors of the Miami DDA authorized the donation of funds to purchase two (2) horses from Inner Coastal Livestock ("Grant") for the Mounted Unit of the Miami Police Department ("MPD") that will provide coverage within the Brickell District of the Miami DDA; and WHEREAS, the acceptance of this Grant, in the amount of thirty thousand dollars ($30,000.00) will be beneficial to the Brickell District of the Miami DDA by providing MPD with additional police resources; and WHEREAS, no match is required of the City of Miami ("City"); and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to accept said Grant; and WHEREAS, the City Commission finds this Grant in the best interests and welfare of the City and its residents and visitors; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The acceptance of a Grant from the Miami DDA, in an amount not to exceed thirty thousand dollars ($30,000.00), to the City to underwrite costs associated with the purchase of two (2) horses is authorized.1 Section 3. The City Manager is authorized to designate the Chief of Police to approve the expenditures of funds allocated to purchase two (2) horses from Inner Coastal Livestock and negotiate and execute an agreement, all in forms acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: ge Wy j ng III, C y ttor 10/14/2025 a ge Wy j ng III, C y ttor- y 1/14/2026 1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all legal requirements that may be imposed, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code provisions. 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
