As you know,
for the 1978

we have been fighting to stay within our budget
Folk Festival, offering the same events this year
on the same budget of $19,000 plus in: -kind services.

The cost of hotel rooms, we learned this week, after our invit-
ations for foreign musical groups had gone out for some time, and
after we thought we had the same rates as last year, have increas-
ed by $1 or more per person per night. Likewise, the cost of
having large signs prepared for our Food and Bazaar Booths has
increases.
There is greater interest than ever in the Folk Festival this year
and we have already sold out of Food and Bazaar booths despite the
fact that we sold only 26 outdoor booths last year, ordered 15 more
and have sold them all much earlier than last year.
The International Banquet, Ball and Fklk Music Show at Omni on
May 5th looks like it will be most successful. We already have
45 tables sold out of a possible 100. We sold about;60 tables
last year.
In short, we may not need additional funds, but there is the possi-
bility that we would have to tell foreigh governments who wish their
folkloric groups to be represented here, that we cannot afford to
pay them $5 per person a day food allowance and accomodations of
three or four persons to a room, even'though those governments are
willing to pay for their transportation to Miami. This, I believe,
would be embarrasing. I sincerely urge an additional appropriation
from the City of $2,500.00 in case we are short, though we may not be.
UnfortunatelyI cannot tell you from which fund it should come.
