A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE SUCCESSFUL
"OPEN HOUSE 8" STREET FAIR AS A POSITIVE
AND WORTHWHILE COMMUNITY EVENT THAT PROVIDED
AN OPPORTUNITY FOR CITIZENS OF ALL CULTURAL
AND ETHNIC BACKGROUNDS TO ENJOY THE UNIQUE
CHARACTEROF LITTLE HAVANA AND TO APPRECIATE
MANY FACETS OF LATIN SOCIETY, AND FURTHER
COMMENDING THE LITTLE HAVANA KIWANIS CLUB,
THE MIAMI HERALD, AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS
FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN ORGANIZING AND PROMOT-
ING "OPEN HOUSE 8", HELD ON MARCH 12, 1978,
ON CALLE OCHO (EIGHT STREET); FURTHER ENCOUR-
AGING SAID ORGANIZATIONS AND SPONSORS TO EXPAND
THIS EVENT AND TO DEVELOP IT INTO AN ANNUAL
AFFAIR SO THAT THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY CAN
PARTICIPATE AND ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE.
WHEREAS, on March 12, 1978, a community event
called "Open House 8" was held on S.W. 8th Street, including
arts and crafts displays, live performances, special food
booths, and other entertainment; and
WHEREAS, "Open House 8" was an enormous success by
virtue of the large numbers of people attending; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami encourages citizen -
generated activities of this nature which benefit the entire
community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSIQN OF

THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Kiwanis Club o Little avana, the
Miami Herald, and other organizations are hereby commended for
their outstanding efforts in organizing and promoting the positive
and worthwhile community event known as the "Open House 8" Street
Fair which was successfully held on March 12, 1978, and provided
an opportunity for citizens of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds
to enjoy the unique character of "Little Havana" and to appreciate
the many facets of Latin society.
Section 2. The organizers and sponsors of "Open House
3" are hereby encouraged to expand this event and to develop it

into an annual affait so that the entice community can patti,,
