Vehicle Maintenance -- 1 !y4146. 1. `f i f Novembet 17, 1977 ' Surplus ,iotor Pool Vehicles As you requested, I am herein submitting the information relating to the sztle of surplus vehicles through our Sister City Program versus public auction, Based on historical data of prior public auctions of surplus City vehicles, it appears that the City is gaining a 10-15°0 sale advantage by selling direct in fairly large quantities. That is to say that while some vehicles might bring a slightly higher price than quoted, the majority would fall somewhat less and in some instances considerably less, In our past sales to a Sister City, Commissioner Plummer has quoted the maximum price in all groups, i.e. police cruisers, compact pool cars, pick up trucks. In this past year's sale to Cali, Columbia, a total of 54 units were sold for a total price of S41,200.00. It is my opinion that the City would have received $4,000 to S6,000 less had these same vehicles been sold through public auction. The sale of surplus vehicles in this manner also eliminates the cost of a public auction, which I estimate to be approximately S1,000 to $1,200. An estimate of value on the five vehicles which you requested is as follows: (2) 1968 Plymouth Station Wagons @S500 each (1) 1971 Plymouth Station Wagon ?$600 (1) 1969 Plymouth Station Wagon 0SS50 (1) 1967 Chevrolet Pick Up @$S00 If you require additional information, please contact my office.
