Additional. Facilities
New World Center
Bicentennial Park
The Department of Parks and Recreation has evaluated the
possibility of augmenting recreational facilities in the New
World Center Bicentennial Park. A study was made to
determine the extent of the facilities needed taking into
consideration the needs of our citizens and the potential
funds available for development,
After the initial concept of the plan (attached) the improve-
ments were discussed with Dr. William Stokes, Vice Pre-
sident of the Miami -Dade Community College Downtown
Campus and the architect of the New World Center Bicen-
tennial Park, Edward D. Stone. Dr. Stokes is in agreement
with this plan and has indicated his approval (letter attached. )
It is projected that the Vita Course and play fields could be
completed in the immediate future using the balance of funds
from Bicentennial Park and utilizing additional funds from
the Park Bond Program. The remaining improvements,
particularly the sport facilities, and the building which will
house lockers and showers, could be attained through the
use of 5th Year CD Funds. Also, Dr. Stokes has indicated
that outside funds may also be available.
The Parks and Recreation Department concludes that by
adding facilities more people could enjoy this beautiful park.
Future development would accommodate a program for
practical and attractive recreational facilities that would
invite more participation by both individuals and community
groups.

Dear Mr. Howard:
I have reviewed the new plan which includes additional activities
in the New World Center Bicentennial Park. This proposal should
attract more people to the park, and the students from this Campus
will be delighted to use it. I agree with the plan as submitted
to me for review last week by Charles Seager. As Vice President
for the Campus and Chairman of the Chamber's subcommittee on recre-
ation, I will do everything that I can to assist you in making the
new proposal a.success.
Florida Statute 235.211 permits funding for similar projects, and
we should explore this funding source to complete the new facilities
proposed for the park.
Sincerely,
William M. Stokes
