A series of attractions will be planned to add color and flavor making it an added incentive to visit 8th Street, HOSPITALITY: The 8th Street Merchant Association, The Latin Chamber of Commerce, Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, The Little Havana Development Authority, Inter -American Business Association have been contacted and have agreed to 'cooperate fully with the project. Members of Kiwanis of Little Havana will individually contact the merchants. We will ask them to open their doors and do something special to weleotne the community. MUSIC: ART: Attractions Different groups of musicians: bands, guitars, combos, etc., will be located throughout the area to add sound to the project. They will be situated to provide a flow of the guests from one block to the other. A main stage with larger musical groups (even with dance) could be located at the empty lot at 17th Avenue. The larger merchants in the area will be invited to have their own musical attractions in front or inside their establishment. An art show/sale will be held throughout 8th Street. Local artists will be invited to show their works along the sidewalk. Plus, different museums and art galleries will be invited to have exhibits inside establishment or in art mobiles. Contest could be held to select murals for walls of 8th Street. OTHER, ATT}tACTIONS: Other events will be welcomed to add to the atmosphere, such as duitural. Several of the theaters along 8th Street could play films attractive to the whole family. The cigar factories along 8th Street could demonstrate the hand rolling process + f cigars. Showniobiles will be situated throughout the areas, offering a wide variety of entertainment. FOOD: MO131LITY: The many restaurants, coffee and sandwieh shops will be asked to offer special menus that day and to have attractions to reach out to the guests, street counters and welcome events. We will encourage tables brought out sidewalks cafe style. The welcome events could vary from music/entertainment to simple signs. 8th Street will be closed if possible (all street lanes). The community will be invited to leisurely walk, ride bikes, stroll, skate or tram. Arrangements will be made to tram up and down 8th Street. Parking areas will be secured along 8th Street with the trams departing from the area with the most parking. The trams will have host guides to welcome and explain the interesting spots and customs of 8th street. The community will be encouraged to bring bikes and pedal or just leisurely stroll along, stopping from attraction to attraction. COMMUNITY REPORT: The entire community will be invited to participate. Besides the organizations mentioned before, the Chamber of Commerce will be aksed to cooperate, with businesses not located on 8th Street. We are seeking interest and commitment from the whole community, especially in seeing 8th Street and Little Havana become the tourist attraction our area needs so much. We will want very much for businesses and organizations to sponsor some type of activity such as musical groups, or any other form of entertainment. Ample credit will be given to the sponsors during performance in the form of signs and other advertisements, plus in the printed guide that will be distributed free of charge to the public. - 1.4 7:7 °* .,, Gsf. .t -fix, Specific hitqtrnatioh 17ATI:: Sunday, March 12, 1978 AREA: S.W. 8th Street from Beacom Boulevard (27th Avenue) to 12th Avenue ORGANIZER: The Miami Herald and The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana CO-SPONSORS: Organizations and businesses that participate MARKETING: Done so it will target the whole community with explanation of the concept plus detail of coordinated publicity of events: maps, guides, program, etc., to make it easier to follow what is going on and precisely where and when attractions and events are being held.
