appropriations for Capital Improvements the fiscal year ending September
30, 1978. Ordinance No. 8716 was slightly amended on first reading on
December 15, 1977.
The attached ordinance further amends Ordinance No. 8716 by adding.an
additional project to the 1976 Fire Facilities Bond Fund, entitled "Hose
Towers, Fire Prevention Vehicles, Fire Pumps and Other Fire Equipment."
The attached memorandum from the Fire Department itemizes the expenditures
that are anticipated during Fiscal Year 1977-78. It is our recommendation
that these additional expenditures be approved.

Amendment to the Capital lfnprove=
ment Program
i
It is requested that the Fire Department's Capital Improvement Program be
amended by ordinance to provide for several needs as setforth below:
The Fire Department has the urgent need for three (3) hose drying
towers, one each for Fire Stations #11 and #12 and the Fire Garage.
The tower at the Fire Garage has been placed out of service due to
deterioration from age and Stations 111 and r12 are without drying
facilities.
Four additional cars are needed at the Fire Prevention Bureau for
inspection work. We propose to purchase one intermediate size and
three compact size cars. The new intermediate size car will be for
Chief liickman's use and his present car, along with the three com-
pacts, will be assigned to the Fire Prevention Bureau. Sufficient
maintenance and mileage funds for four cars are provided in the Fire
Department's 1977-78 Budget.
Fire pumps and communication equipment is necessary to retrofit the
existing Dockmaster's boat at Dinner Key for the additional use as
a Mini -Fireboat. This boat will be utilized within its capacity for
boat fires and other emergencies within the Dinner Key area.
Additional expenditures of $51,600 to also be allocated for Fire De-
partment equipment use in the 1977-78 fiscal period.
We arc proposing that referenced expenditures be allocated from the
contingency fund in the Fire Department Capital Improvement Program.
Estimated Costs:
1. Iiose towers @ $5,000 each
2. Cars - 1 @ $5,500 and 3 @ $4,300 each
3. Fire pumps and communication equipment
4. Unallocated Fire Department Expenditures
