Year doesn't look so goad, not so goad at all. As hest f can
figure, nothing tnurh has changed — it's the same year.
with the same people. manners. mores. movies. television
programs, media horrors and political frights. Time for our
annual ritual. 1 suppose: a critic's fantasy in which big of-
fenders and small irritants go away ... tar. far away.

vorable ... Dogs. Barking dogs. Biting dogs. Dogs that foul
my lawn. often cchile at the end of someone's leash ... The
cars with the New York license plates that stop at the ramp
between 1-95 and 1-195, then start to back up while trying
to figure out which road takes them to Miami Beach ... Mi-
ami's gutsy government, so indecisive that a simple ques-
tion about beer in the Orange L'owl has to go to a public
vote ..

have followed their instincts, ... -The Gong Show.- a hor-
ritying glimpse of an onrushing clash between the forces of
culture and dignity. and those of the chicken duo -duo men-
tality tto cite one of the more subtle shots given us lately on

Witifiafn Maloy of Pensacola, the
Navvy's chief civilian adviser on
training, was nominated Wednes-
day for a seat on the Hoard of Re-
gents by Gov. Reuhin Askew.
Maloy, once the education advis-
er to Askew and his predecessor,
Claude Kirk, succeeds Regent E.W.
Hopkins Jr., whose nine-year term
expires Jan. 1.
Maloy is the chief advir:er to the
Naval Education and Training Com-
mand at Pensacola Naval Air Sta-
tion. He will attend his first Re-
gents meeting Jan. 9 in St. Peters-
burg.
