City of Miami Legislation Resolution Enactment Number: R-25-0404 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 18192 Final Action Date:9/25/2025 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CODESIGNATING SOUTHWEST 13TH COURT BETWEEN SOUTHWEST 8TH STREET AND SOUTHWEST 13TH STREET AS "TERESA `TERRI' CALLAVA WAY," IN HONOR OF HER OUTSTANDING PHILANTHROPIC AND CULTURAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CITY OF MIAMI; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY ACTION TO EFFECTUATE THE CODESIGNATION; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN NAMED OFFICIALS. WHEREAS, Teresa "Terri" Callava (1956-2021) was a beloved community leader, passionate advocate, and cultural icon in the City of Miami ("City") whose work for over three decades left an indelible mark on South Florida; and WHEREAS, Ms. Callava served as Director of Business Development & Marketing for the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana for thirty-six (36) years, during which time she played a pivotal role in transforming the organization into a beacon of hope for underserved communities; and WHEREAS, through her leadership and tireless dedication, the Kiwanis of Little Havana raised more than seventy million dollars ($70,000,000.00), directly benefiting hundreds of thousands of young people by supporting college scholarships, summer camps, youth sports leagues, back -to -school drives, and other initiatives that increased access to education and opportunity; and WHEREAS, Ms. Callava helped shape the cultural fabric of Miami and was a driving force behind iconic community celebrations, including the Calle Ocho Music Festival and Carnaval on the Mile, uplifting Latin culture and uniting the diverse communities of South Florida, thereby elevating Miami's global reputation; and WHEREAS, known for her vivacious spirit, compassion, and extraordinary work ethic, Ms. Callava was often described as "the epitome of passion" and the heart and soul of the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, with a legacy that endures in the programs she championed and in the countless lives she touched; and WHEREAS, beyond her professional accomplishments, Ms. Callava was a devoted mother, partner, sister, aunt, and friend, remembered by her family as "the nucleus of it all," who lived fully, loved deeply, and inspired endlessly; and WHEREAS, Ms. Callava courageously battled cancer and passed away peacefully on April 7, 2021, at the age of sixty-four (64), surrounded by loved ones; and WHEREAS, the City finds it fitting and proper to honor Teresa "Terri" Callava's life, legacy, and contributions to our youth, our families, and our culture by codesignating Southwest 13th Court between Southwest 8th Street and Southwest 13th Street; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission hereby co -designates Southwest 13th Court between Southwest 8th Street and Southwest 13th Street as "Teresa `Terri' Callava Way." Section 3. The City Manager is directed to take all necessary steps to effectuate this codesignation, including the installation of appropriate signage. Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, and Solid Waste; the Miami -Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works; the Miami -Dade County Commissioner of District 5; the United States Postal Service; and, if a State of Florida road, to the Florida Department of Transportation, District Six, for sign installation within the newly designated roadway.
