Herewith please find Tabulation of Proposals ticr..,
Contractors for Widening the NW 27TH AVENUE BRIDGE over the
North Fork of the Miami River.
The present structure is a reinforced concrete arch
of 50 foot span, carrying a 16 ft. roadway but no sidewalks.
This bridge is now too narrow to carry the present traffic on
27th Avenue, without danger. Each of these Contractors propose
to remove the present hand -rails and wing -walls, and to widen
out the roadway equally on each side of the present structure, and
to construct sidewalks on both side of the widened roadway.
The present structure was built by the Luten Bridge Co.,
and is entirely satisfactory except for the width. The same
Company has submitted the lowest price on the widening of this
bridge, and I recommend that the work be given to the Luten Bridge
Company, provided a satisfactory contract can be agreed upon with
them.
In order to eliminate the objectionable dip in grade
between this bridge and the bridge aver the Miami Canal, and
also the steep grade south of this bridge, NW 27th Avenue snould
be raised for a distance of 300 feet on each side of the bridge.
This will require a fill of approximately 3,200 cu. yds. d.1.25
per cu. yd., costing 44,000.00. Additional paving over the
widened structure and approaches will cost approximately 0.3,500.00
making the total improvement coat approximately $21,000.00.
For your inforaation, we measured tne other bridges
in this vicinity and found the following widthu of roadway:
Swing Bridge over Miami Canal,
Concrete Bridge over
South Fork of Miami River
at Ire 27th Avenue,
Concrete Bridge over
South Fork of Miami River
at NW 22nd Avenue
19-1/2 feet,

These bridges are carrying the present traffic wit?.cut
serious crowding.
