AUTHORIZING CONSTRUCTION OF CART LINES The City Manager submitted the following oommunioation addressed to him from the Dir tor of Public Utilities in reference to certain street railway extensions: Mr. F. H. Wharton City Manager Miami, Florida Dear Sir: March 18, 1926 I am enclosing, herewith, small copy of map of the City of Miami showing street oar lines as installedin blue, and some of the.' lines as contemplated and being installed, in red. Just et this time the Contractor is starting to pave N.E. let Avenue from N.E. 14th Street to N.E. 17th Street, and N.E. 17th 'St. from N.E. 1st Avenue to N.E. 2nd Avenue. Inasmuch as the contemplated street oar line work, carries a line on both those streets, I would ask authority for installing the track work at this time. This outlines as follows: All north -bound cars east of Miami Avenue, would go North on N.E. 2nd Avenue to N.E. 17th Street. Prom here the north -bound N.W. 2nd Avenue cars would turn west on 17th Street, going through to Miami Avenue and there connecting. with the present N.'",. 2nd Avenue track on North Miami Avenue. The incoming cars on the N.W. 2nd Avenue line would ' follow the present line - that is, down Miami Avenue to 14th Street, thence East to N.E. 1st Avenue and South to Flagler Street. The south - bound N.E. 2nd Avenue cars would turn !West at 17th Street, continuing to N.E. 1st Avenue, thence South following N.E. let Avenue to Flagler Street. This contemplated scheme then would abandon that portion of track on 14th Street from N.E. lst Avenue to N.E. 2nd Avenue, and would allow vehicular traffic all to flow East on 14th Street, and would allow vehicular traffic to use N.E. 17th Street, et least from N.E. 2nd Avenue to Miami Avenue, as a west -bound thoroughfare. Vehicular traffic coming into town from N.E. 2nd Avenue would, therefore, turn West at N.E. 17th Street to N.2. 1st Avenue, thence South on lst Avenue to Flagler Street. The cost for doing this work is estimated at >26,000. - t21,000. being for materiels and 5,000. for labor in installing the track. '7e have on hand auffieient rail that could be used from other work to allow us to go ahead with this work at the same time this street. is being graded ahead of paving. Yours very truly, (Signed) ERNEST COTTON Direotor of Public Utilities. Whereupon a resolution authorizing the extensions recommended vas introduced Leffler, who moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 2561.
