NG Public Comment Public Comment for the Budget Hearing I urge the City to prioritize accountability, transparency, and the protection of our neighborhoods in this year's budget. Specifically: Create an Independent Office of Inspector General — Residents deserve real oversight to ensure elected officials are held accountable and taxpayer funds are safeguarded. An independent OIG would provide the necessary checks and balances that Miami currently lacks. Strengthen the Tree Ordinance — Miami's tree canopy is one of our most valuable assets. Stronger protections must be enacted to prevent unnecessary removals, ensure enforcement, and require meaningful mitigation. Our trees are critical to reducing flooding, cooling our streets, and preserving property values. Fund the Olympia Theater — World -class cities have world -class cultural programming, and the Olympia is our jewel. If SLAM can afford to give the Flagler BID $1 million annually, then surely the City can retain ownership of this historic theater and collect at least that much in a lease agreement. This revenue can sustain the Olympia as Miami's cultural hub, exactly as Maurice Gusman intended when he donated it to the people of Miami. Sand Mois 5910 BH - I have several recommendations for this year's budget that will y e NE BUDGE strengthen our city's safety, health, sustainability, and cultural 6th T identity. First, I ask that you fund a park ranger position for the spoil Court HEARI islands. I personally clean one of these islands, and I've found NG evidence of illegal activities, including drug paraphernalia. A dedicated ranger is urgently needed to protect these sensitive areas and the public who enjoys them. Second, please allocate funding for more marine patrol officers. Biscayne Bay has seen preventable tragedies, reckless boating, and safety risks that demand active enforcement on the water. Our residents and visitors deserve a Bay that is safe for everyone. Third, I urge you to fund a city-wide transition to electric leaf blowers. Gas -powered blowers are noisy, polluting, and harmful to public health. Electric alternatives reduce emissions, protect workers, and align with Miami's climate goals. Fourth, we need an Urban Forester position to oversee and expand our tree canopy.
