WAY" IN HONOR OF HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE GAME OF FOOTBALL, ACHIEVEMENTS IN ATHLETICS, AND HIS IMPACT ON THE CITY OF MIAMI; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY ACTION TO EFFECTUATE THE CODESIGNATION; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN NAMED OFFICIALS. WAY" IN HONOR OF HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE GAME OF FOOTBALL, ACHIEVEMENTS IN ATHLETICS, AND HIS IMPACT ON THE CITY OF MIAMI; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL NECESSARY ACTION TO EFFECTUATE THE CODESIGNATION; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN NAMED OFFICIALS. WHEREAS, Franklin Gore Sr., ("Gore") born May 14, 1983, in Miami, Florida, is a celebrated former professional football player who played as a running back for 16 seasons in the National Football League ("NFL"); and WHEREAS, Gore grew up in Coconut Grove and attended Coral Gables Senior High School, where he broke multiple Miami -Dade County records, including rushing for 2,997 yards and 39 touchdowns in a single season; and WHEREAS, Gore played college football for the University of Miami Hurricanes and was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft, where he became the franchise's all-time rushing leader and earned five Pro Bowl selections; and WHEREAS, Gore ranks third in NFL career rushing yards and holds the league record for games played by a running back, exemplifying exceptional longevity and resilience at his position; and WHEREAS, Gore also played for the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and New York Jets, and was named to the NFL 2010s All -Decade Team; and WHEREAS, Gore's dedication to his family, academics, and community, including supporting his mother through health challenges, exemplifies the values of perseverance and service; and WHEREAS, Gore has remained a visible and inspirational figure in the Miami community, frequently engaging with youth programs, mentoring aspiring athletes, and serving as a role model for perseverance, humility, and excellence; and WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 14317, adopted on September 26, 2024, provides that the restrictions related to street co -designations contained in Section 54-137 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida ("City Code"), may be waived by a four -fifths (4/5ths) affirmative vote of the City Commissioners, or an unanimous vote of the quorum that exists because of either abstentions or vacancies resulting from resignation, death, suspension, or physical incapacitation; and WHEREAS, the codesignation of Oak Avenue from Southwest 37th Avenue to Plaza Street as "Frank Gore, Sr. Way" will serve as a lasting tribute to his legacy and a source of pride and inspiration for residents of Coconut Grove and the broader Miami community; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. By a four -fifths (4/5ths) affirmative vote of the City Commissioners, or an unanimous vote of the quorum that exists because of either abstentions or vacancies resulting from resignation, death, suspension, or physical incapacitation, the Miami City Commission hereby co -designates Oak Avenue between Southwest 37 Avenue and Plaza Street as "Frank Gore, Sr. Way." Section 3. The City Manager is directed to take all necessary steps to effectuate this codesignation, including the installation of appropriate signage. Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, and Solid Waste; the Miami -Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works; the Miami -Dade County Commissioner of District 7; the United States Postal Service; and, if a State of Florida road, to the Florida Department of Transportation, District Six, for sign installation within the newly designated roadway. Section 5. If any section, clause, or provision of this resolution is declared invalid, the remainder shall not be affected and shall remain in full force and effect. Section 6.
