APPOINTMENT OF ANTONIO G. DIAZ AS INDEPENDENT INSPECTOR GENERAL
("INSPECTOR GENERAL"), PURSUANT TO SECTION 52 OF THE CHARTER OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI, AS AMENDED, AND SECTION 2-160 OF THE CODE OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE"), WITH THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF
SAID APPOINTMENT TO BE THE DATE THE CITY COMMISSION APPROVES THE
INSPECTOR GENERAL'S CONTRACT BY SEPARATE RESOLUTION PURSUANT
TO SECTION 2-160(C) OF THE CITY CODE; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION APPROVING THE
APPOINTMENT OF ANTONIO G. DIAZ AS INDEPENDENT INSPECTOR GENERAL
("INSPECTOR GENERAL"), PURSUANT TO SECTION 52 OF THE CHARTER OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI, AS AMENDED, AND SECTION 2-160 OF THE CODE OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE"), WITH THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF
SAID APPOINTMENT TO BE THE DATE THE CITY COMMISSION APPROVES THE
INSPECTOR GENERAL'S CONTRACT BY SEPARATE RESOLUTION PURSUANT
TO SECTION 2-160(C) OF THE CITY CODE; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-160 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida,
as amended ("City Code"), the Ad Hoc Inspector General Selection Committee
("Selection Committee") convened and considered eligible applicants for Independent
Inspector General; and
WHEREAS, after a thorough interview of qualified candidates on May 29, 2025,
the Selection Committee appointed Antonio G. Diaz as the Independent Inspector
General of the City of Miami ("Inspector General"); and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 52 of the Charter of the City of Miami, Florida,
as amended ("Charter"), and Section 2-160(b)(3) of the City Code, the Miami City
Commission wishes to approve the appointment of Antonio G. Diaz as the Inspector
General; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-160(c) of the City Code, the Director of
Human Resources is authorized1 in consultation with the City Attorney, to negotiate a
contract of employment with the Inspector General, subject to approval by the City
Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Inspector General is a member of the Florida Bar, in good standing,
subject to the Rules Regulating the Florida Bar; and
WHEREAS, the Charter provides, in pertinent part, that the Inspector General
shall have the power to perform investigations, audits, reviews and oversight of City
contracts, programs, projects, abuse, waste and mismanagement as well as City -
funded contracts, programs and projects; to provide inspector general services to other
City agencies and authorities upon the approval of a request to provide such services
by a majority of the City Commission; and to issue subpoenas; and
WHEREAS, the Inspector General shall exercise independent professional

judgment and perform all services incidental to the position on behalf of, and in the best
interest of the City; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Charter, the Inspector General shall have a term of
office of four (4) years; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission reserves its right to terminate its relationship
with the Inspector General by an official act of the City Commission, without cause
shown, prior to the expiration of the term upon the affirmative vote of four -fifths (4/5ths) of
the City Commission;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Commission, pursuant to Section 52 of the Charter, and Section
2-160(b)(3) of the City Code, approve the appointment of Antonio G. Diaz as the
Independent Inspector General of the City of Miami, with the effective date of said
appointment to be the date the City Commission approves the Inspector General's contract
by separate Resolution pursuant to Section 2-160(c) of the City Code.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
