' U (,5 City Clerk Subject: Collaborative Activation of the Historic Olympia Theater As part of our continued commitment to cultural vibrancy, community inclusion, and economic resilience, I am excited to announce the City's intention to activate the historic Olympia Theater up to 200 times per year, transforming it into a dynamic civic and cultural anchor for Miami. This activation will be shaped in close collaboration with a newly formed Olympia Advisory Council, composed of respected cultural leaders and organizations whose work spans performing arts, music, film, and community engagement. Examples of partners who will be invited to join this council include: Third Horizon, Miami Film Festival, Guitars Over Guns, Miami Light Project, MDC Live Arts, Rhythm Foundation, and Miami City Ballet, among others. Together, this group will assist in the co -creation of a proposed action plan for the theater that includes: • Artistic and community -driven programming responsive to local needs and opportunities • A clear framework for curatorial collaboration • Budget outlines for staffing, marketing, vending, and production • A strategy for access and audience engagement Why This Matters The Olympia Theater is a stunning, historic asset in the heart of downtown Miami. But beautiful spaces alone do not generate impact. For this venue to truly serve the cultural sector and the people of Miami, we must approach its use holistically and economically. Free or low-cost access to a space is valuable, but it's not sufficient. Cultural organizations need seed funding, flexible infrastructure, and production support in order to experiment, test new ideas, and bring bold programming to life. A vibrant Olympia must be resourced in ways that allow our local artists and producers not only to imagine, but to execute. This approach is more than an investment in the arts, it's an investment in Miami's economic future. According to recent economic data: • Miami-Dade's creative economy generates over $1.4 billion in wages annually • The nonprofit arts and culture sector alone sustains more than 40,000 jobs across the region • For every dollar invested in the arts, communities see a return through tourism, local business activity, and job creation Activating Olympia in this way ensures that we're not just preserving a landmark, we're creating a living, breathing space that drives economic activity, strengthens community ties, and celebrates the voices that make Miami distinct. \'1'1 CIS 5Q\011)\0\ - CeNA\ss)ostqr uaca - LA\tc
