There was provided in the Bridget for thin, yea
an amount for the purchase of a new street sweeper. ThI
old Elgin Sweeper, whioh is now in Gerrie*, has given
vary general satisfaction. ••
After securing prioes on various other makes
of sweepers, the =gin seems to be lower in price than
other standard makes. The prioe quoted on a new agin •
sweeper is 46850.00, and estimated freight to Miami, 4867.00
or a total of 47217.00 delivered.
I would recommend the purchase of the Slgin
Aweeppm, and ask that I be given authority to make the
purchase.

Austin is capable of around street corners.

Last Tuesday night, the City Council at LaCrosse, Wisconsin,
bought an Austin Motor Pickup Sweeper. This was the fourth
time bids had been received and Alderman C. H. Collins asked
some twenty-five Austin users for their opinion and experience.
He has kindly turned over to us the telegrams received, the
originals of which are in this office and the genuineness of
which is absolutely guaranteed. All of them are addressed to
C. H. Collins and all are dated March l5th, 17th or 18th, 1924:
The following quotations are verbatim:
Robert Pierce, Supt. of Streets, Red Bank, N. J.
"Have used Austin machine. It is very satisfactory."
Ralph B. Linville, City Engineer,Danville, Va.
"Have been using Austin Motor Pickup Sweeper for over four
years. Think it moot economical and satisfactory way for
street cleaning."
A. W. Vars, City Engineer, Plainfield, N. J.
"Have run Austin Motor Sweeper two years. Find same economi-
cal and satisfactory. Would buy another if needed."
W. G. Ewing, Street Commissioner, Wilkinsburg, Pa.
"Have used Austin machine for four years. Perfectly satisfied.
Expect in near future to get another."
Jas. B. Greeley, Supt. of Streets, Passaic, N. J.
"Machine is perfectly satisfactory and is a good investment."
Leonard A. Bergman, Director Public Works, Jamestown, N. Y.
"Our Austin Sweeper is very satisfactory to us. Gutter broom
excels that of any sweeper we have had." (Note: Jamestown
also has a three wheeled machine.)
John F. Buck, Supt. of Ste., Aberdeen, S. Dak.
"Bought Austin Sweeper April 1923. Cleaned four million
eighteen thousand eight hundred thirty square yards, collect-
ed one thousand sixty two and one-half cubic yards cleaning
five hundred fifty-eight and one-half hours, total cost nine
hundred eighteen dollars eighty nine cents. Department paid
for sweeper out of 1923 budget. Lachine very satisfactory.
Will forward itemized statement of work by letter on request."

"Have used Austin Sweeper since July lot, 1923 and find same
very satisfactory and are well pleased with it."

"In my opinion the four wheeled Austin Motor Sweeper is the beel

easy to handle, does good work and not expensive to operate."

"We have five Austin Motor Sweepers. They meet our requirements
as far as we are oonoerned, proving satisfactory."

pendability. Has out our costs of street cleaning half and
greatly increased efficiency in cleaning. Repairs and trouble
negligible. Wouldn't go back to old system and believe Austin

is evenly distributed, giving motor better chance, especially
•an hauls. Average 30 miles on pavement 40 to 60 cubic yards
sweepings per ten hour day. Austin Superior." (Note: Lansing
has just puchased a second Austin and junked three wheeled
meoblne.)
H. S. Andrews, Comr. Public Works, Pulton, N.Y.
"This city purchased Austin Motor Pickup Sweeper last summer.
Its work during summer and fall was entirely satisfactory."
Not a single unfavorable report was received. Do you think there
is anything remarkable in the fact that Austin Motor Sweeper sales
are running far ahead of previous records?
