Section 1. All privies ihali be so conatructe . as to prevent
e,ceess to the night soil container. In order that this may be
'.ccomp lis hed the compartment under the seat in which stands the
night soil container shall be tightly constructed of sound
lumber, cement or iron, without cracks or crevices. Any openings
into this compartment for ventilation ahall be covered by wire fly
screenin,. There shall be at the back; or side of this compart-
ment an opening for the removal of the night soil contained, which
openin,r shall be provided with a ti4htly fitting, let -down board
cover, hinged to the house and so constructed as to prevent the
access of flies to the night soil. Tliic cover shall be provided
with a hook or button and shall always be kept closed. Where prac-
ticable, the .opening, shall abut on a public alley no as to be
accessible to the city scavengers.
Section S. The roof of eacz privy or earth closet shall be
water tight and if it slopes to the rear of the house it shall
project not less than six inches beyond the rear of the house.
The doors of all privies shall be tight fittin'* and self -closing,
and any windows or opening for ventilation shall be covered by
wire fly screens. All privies shall have at least 'one opening
of not less than two square feet for venitla.tlon.
Section 3, In case of existing privies which are not in
acscor4ance with the above rules, the owner of the xrolterty wtfl
not be required to reoonstruct the privy unletP., in the o tnion
of oar:1 of Health, 441c1 privy-' its a menace to the health, but
all yriviee shall comply with the fol lowin7 minimum requirements
within t'4irty days:

rain water in the night soil containers,
(b) The house ehali be without opening aM cracks, through
which flies may' enter. It Shall be provided with a tight self.,
closing door, and shall have an opening or openings for light and
ventilation, which shall be screened for the exclusion of Mee.
(o) The seat shall have a re1.f.-eioair.7 hinge cover of
sufficient size to oomTletely cover the orening or openings in
the seat.
(d) There shall be a tightly fitting let -down hinged Dover
over the box openings for the exclusion of flies.
(e) There shall be some disinfectant or deodorant put in
buckets each morning.
Section 4. A11 alterations or repairing which shall be
hereafter made of any privy in the City of liarri, shall be made
in accordance with the reyuirements under the preceding sections,
and whenever it shall become necessary to entirely reconstruct or
change the location of any existing privy, the new privy shall be
constructed throughout in conformity with paid requirements.
Whenever, in the opinion of the Hoard of Health , the condition
cf any privy is such th:..t it cannot be constructed in conformity
with said sections.
Section b. All privies shall be kept clean at all times.
The dorr of the house shall not be allowed to remain open at any
time unless there is a self-closin r fly door in addition to that
revired under the above rules. No wash -water, ,garbage, kitchen
slops or other liquid wastes shall be emrtied into the privy. No
niht soil, from any peroon suffering from typhoil fever or utber
serious bowel trouble shall be -ieponiter in any privy without being

section 6, The owner or hie went, of the promisee upon

Section 7. Any :.erson or persvhs charith any of the
duites imoced by this ordinance, failint afttr taenty-four
hours' written notice from trig Director of Public Welfare

violation of this ordinance., and for each day after the
expiration of 3i11.1 twenty-four hours that the said lrson
fails to comply with this ordinance he shall 'Pe deemed

person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance 3hll,
on conviction, be subject to a ±iie of not lesc than ten
dollars ($10.00) nor more than fiftycollars ($50.00) or to
