HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinanceCity of Miami Ordinance Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 17798 Final Action Date: 6/26/2025 AN ORDINANCE OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AMENDING CHAPTER 2/ARTICLE II OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, TITLED "ADMINISTRATION/MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION," TO PROHIBIT OUTSIDE EMPLOYMENT OF THE MAYOR; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. SPONSOR(S): Commissioner Joe Carollo WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes the needs of the City of Miami ("City") require the Mayor to dedicate full-time efforts to the responsibilities and duties of the office; and WHEREAS, the City Commission believes that prohibiting outside employment for the Mayor will ensure undivided attention to the City's affairs and prevent conflicts of interest; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the city and its residents to adopt this ordinance to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the Mayor's office; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Ordinance are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Chapter 2/Article II of the City Code, entitled "Mayor and City Commission," is amended in the following particulars:1 "CHAPTER 2 ADMINISTRATION ARTICLE II. MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION Secs. 2 40 2 30. Reserved Outside Employment of the Mayor. 1 Words and/or figures stricken through shall be deleted. Underscored words and/or figures shall be added. The remaining provisions are now in effect and remain unchanged. Asterisks indicate omitted and unchanged material. City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File ID: 17798 (Revision:) Printed On: 7/8/2025 File ID: 17798 Enactment Number: Effective on November 10, 2025, the Mayor shall devote full time and attention to the duties of the office and shall not, during the term for which elected, engage in any other business, profession, or occupation for compensation. Secs. 2-401 - 2-30. Reserved." Section 3. If any section, part of a section, paragraph, clause, phrase, or word of this Ordinance is declared invalid, the remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected. Section 4. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately after its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: 2 This Ordinance shall become effective as specified herein unless vetoed by the Mayor within ten (10) days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Ordinance, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission or upon the effective date stated herein, whichever is later.
