Passed and adopted. this 5th day ,of September, 191S. Press ent City Council. Attest: SEMI MIN ai MIMI To The City Council City of Miami. Gentlemen: - I am returning herewith to your honorable body, with my approval, Ordinance *2S1, same being an Ordinance nTo Amend Section *l of an Ordinance entitled, An Ordinance Fixing The Salaries of certain officials and employees of the City of Miami, Florida. I beg to say to your honorable body that, I approved this Ordinance supply because the salary was fixed when I assumed my duties and because it effects me only. I do not in any manner approve of fixing the salary of the Mayor of Miami at 075.00 per month. The Mayors duties in Miami require about all his time. He cannot attend to any other business as a means of support andtproperly and efficiently attend to the duties of the Mayor's office. His duties take him nearly every day all over the City. He has inquiries to answer daily, and in a City growing as Miami is, these inquiries concerning various'.Ordinanoes etc., are increasing. He must keep in touch with every department and must see that the Ordinances are enforced. Further, at this time during the war helrepresenting the United States Government in various ways by virtueof his being Mayor. In Miami the Mayor must furnish his own office. True, we have the 4 x 6 "Hole in the wall" at the City building. This room is altogether inadequate and I am forced to supply and furnish a room myself in order to properly attend to the duties of the office. am not sending this ormmunioation to effect my salary, as shall serve the balance of the tern and do ray full duty et 75.00 per month but whoever suaeeeds me as Mayor should receive not less than $200.00 per month and be required to`put :in the time,
