Members present: F. H. Wharton, F. G. Erfert, 0. F. Flier, 0. Hefty. TARES CANCELLATION: The Clerk read a communication from Ira E. Adamb, Pastor of the First Christian Churoh, relative to the removal of taxes on Lots nine and ten of Bloc$ 108-N, whioh was duly moved by C. F. Filer and seoonded by F. H.,,Wharton that the taxes on this property .be cancelled, and Clerk instruoted to notify'Tax Aseesesor of such oanoellation. LICENSE? CLEANING & PRESSING:' The 0!erk read a communication from the Miami Cleaners and eetablishing a straight and uniform lioense tax Of $ 50.00. seoonded by C. F. Filer that this oommunioation be referred of the City Counoil on Monday night, September 25th, 1916. ORDINANCES NOS. 215 and 217. VETOED BY MAYOR. Ordinances Nos. 215 and 217 vetoed by Mayor. His verbal reasons were,that Ordinanoe Noe 217 would praotioally put al:. oonoerns obliged to use trunk out of business. Ordinanoe No. 215. His verbal reasons were that this Ordinanoe was not what was wanted and he considered it better to veto it and have a new Ordinance drawn. Moved by F. H. Wharton that these Ordinances be referred to the Mayor for hie objections to be submitted in writing. Seconded by 0. F. Filer. On roll oall all voted yes. LICENSE. THE MIAMI DENTAL SOCIETY. The Clerk• read a oommunioation from the Miami Dental Society asking that they might be exempted from having to pay a City Lioenae Tax on account of the Dootore of the Medioal profession being exempted for the last two years. Moved by 0. F. Filer and seoonded by F. G. Erfert that this communication be referred to the Adjourned meeting of the City Counoil to be held on September 25th, 1916. Monday night. PROTEST WATER FROM SEWER TRENCH ON 15TH STREET The Clerk read a oommunioation from Geo. A. 0rmerod protesting against the water from the sewer trenoh on 15th street flooding the neghborhood near 12th street and Avenue Q, thus oreating an unhealthy condition and making Avenue Q impassible for pedestrians and also making a breeding plaoe for mosquitoes. Asks that the oontraotors be oompelle to retain this water by dikes or drain it by ditching. Moved bylFd,H. Wharton and seoonded by 0. F. Filer that this communication be referred to the Street Committeeman. All voted yes Dyers Assooiation as to the Moved by F. H. Wharton and to the adjourned meeting 0n roll oall all voted yes. BUILDING CODE. The Clerk read a communication from H. R. Chase relative to the adoption of a standard building oode because of the request of A. M. Soheon, 0116ef Engineer of the South Eastern Underwriters Assoeitirjn of Atlanta, Ga. Mr. Chase redommende that the National Board of Underwriters Code be adopted beoause this Board have employed some of the finest engineers that can be found in the country to compile this oode to lesson the fire hazard. Mr. Chase feels that if we were to send the Underwriters Association a oopy of the building oode under advisement that it would be rejected. After due disoussion it was moved by F. H. Wharton and seoonded by 0. F. Filer that a oopy of this building code be sent to the Aseooition to see if they will aooept it. On roll call all voted yes. RESOLUTION NO. 1086-B. SANITARY SEWER IMPROVEMENT NO. 16. Complianta were asked for on the construction of sewersas follows:- 8 inch vitrified pipe om 14th at, from Ave. K to M; llth St from M to N ; 10th St from M to M; Ave. M from 9th to lath and Ave. N from loth to lath Sta. There being no complaints the Clerk was then instructed to advertise for at lease one time in the Miami Heald for bids on the construction of this work, said bide to be reoeived not later that the 12th day of Ootober, 1916. ...Moved by F. G. Erfert and seoonded by 0. F. Filer that these . bids be asked for. 0n roll oall all voted yes, APPOINT'GENT OF A BOILER INSPECTOR; THIRD MEMBER; The Clerk read a oommunioation fro -Messrs. L. E. Miksitz and S. H. Buell asking that Mr. E. J. Roberta be appointed the third member Qf the Board of Stationary Engineer Examiners subject to the approval of Mayor Henderson and the City Counoil. Both Mayor Henderson and the City Council approved of this appointment then it was moved by F. G. Erfert and seoonded by 0. F. Filer that Mr. E. J. Roberts be appointed as third member of the Board of Examiners. On roll call all voted yes. CAUSEWAY. AS TO FORMING A PLAN BY WHICH TO WORK. Mr. L. R. Railey appeared before the City Counoil in behalf of the County, Commissioners requesting that a Committee of these of the Councilmen be appointed to meet a oommittee of equal number of the County Commissioners to formulate a kind of agreetment by which they oou.d more effectually work. It was diettinotly•understood that this Oom mittee would not have the power to make any definite agreement but this agreement was to be brought before both bodies in full for due consideration. Mr. Myles further disoussee the matter showing that it was better for a oommitte to be appointed to draw a skeleton agreement by which both bodies could do more effectual work. Moved by F, H, Wharton and seconded by C. F. Filer that the Chairman be asked to appoint this committee.. On roll oall all voted yes. In turn Chairman Hefty appointed Mr. E. 0. ripmfu,14 L. Brady, and F. H. Wharton to meet with the oommitteeoof the County Commissioners on any date that they may set. SPOILBANK SHIP CHANNEL. Bowers Southern Dredging Company's representative address the City Counoil asking permiesion to deposit approximately 30,000 yards of sand from the channel on the East end of the Government spoil bank. Randolph, Resident Engineeit, address to Mr. Bra4y Commissioner of Parks and Docks relative to the ourse necessary to be.made in oder to oonneot with the F. E. O. traoks . A000rding to plan submitted by ,the Engineers for the Qity to the Engineers for the railroad it would ne©esitata a aurae Of .8 degree and 14 minutes whioh according to the Engineers for the Railroad , they have no engine that is that will make a our*e of this degree. They further reply that the miximum permissible curvatures anuthds line would be 15 degrees and do not Care to Consider a Curve of Over 13 degrees. Mr. Randolph by his oommunioatione shows that other railroads over the Country are operating over curves of much greater degree than he has aksed for . Moved by F.H. Wharton that this oommunioation be referred to the City Attorney with insturations tc look into the matter as to the Contents of the oommunioation. C. F. Filer seconded the motion. All voted yes on roll oall. BIDE FOR SEWER DISTRICTS 10,11,12,13,14, & 15. Moved by F. H. Wharton and seconded by F. G. Erfert that tese bids be opened. After having theee bide read it was moved by C. F. Filer and seconded by F. H. Wharton that these bide be turned over to the City Enginerr for tabulation • 0n roll pall all voted. yes, LICENSES L916-1917. Regarding the regulation of the lioense tax for the years 1916- 1917 was Called before the council by the Chairman. Moved by F. H. Wharton and seoonded by C. F. Filer that the present License Ordinanoe be given its first reading in full and the second reading by title only at the present meeting. 0n roll pall all voted yes. The Clerk was then instruoted to read the Ordinance as instructed, whioh he did. The matter was then put on file for the adjourned meeting September 25th, 1916. TELEPHONE BOOTH COR 3RD STREET AND AVENUE G. Mr. Filer addressed the Council asking authority to enlarge the telephone booth oorner of 3rd Street and Avenue G . to about five by ten feet in order to give the patrolmen on that end of the town a plaoe to hang their Coats and also fir a drinking station. After some discussions by the members of the Council as to whether theere was woom for a building of this size it was deferred until the Adjourned Meeting to give the members not familiar wish the oonditione an.opportunity to investigage.
