Communications from the Miami Board of Trade and Coameroisl Club, both bearing date Julya3rd 1014 re , requesting that council take same notion looking to a cliu�ge in the manner of naming and numbering the streets of the city, were read by the •lens;,' Councilman Romfh advised that he thought the renaming of the streets of the city a proper questionrat this time and would like the organisatiene mentioned to furnish some:data on the oost that would be inverted. and made a motto* that s oommittee of three be appointed to take the matter up with the Simard of Traden& Oommeroial Club, Counoilman McDonald ssoonded the motion *blob was oarrie4 *newt mbu13. •aY' and the following committee appointed; J. A. McDonald, O. Hefty and E. 0. Reek. Mr. F. A. Keene, of the Commeroial Club addressed oounoil, explaining the terns► for requesting the proposed ohangs and submitted a tentative plan for rsnamenthe streets, beginning at 12th and working north,- change llth to set, 10th to , ete ;' and on the south side of lath Street change 13th toast St. South, ete. June report of the Board of Health was read to oounoil and on motion by.H. 0. Ralston seconded by C. Beatty, which oarried unanimously, the report was ordered reoeived and filed. Communications from the Magio City Bottling Works and the Miami Water Co., dated July llth and 13th respectively, with regard to oondition of the standpipe Eau 409, 13th Street, were read to council and on motion by E..0. Romfh seconded b* 0. F. Filer, the same were referred to oouncilman Hefty with power to aot. Motion oarried. Communication under date July 23rd, from Engineer B. H. Klyoe, with regard to paving all the streets not now paved between the Miami River and 6th Street and the F. E. O. Railway and Biscayne Bay, together with the neoeseary drainage, was read by the clerk. Moved by E. 0. Romfh and seconded by H. G. Ralston that oommunio"tion be reoeived and action deferred until the same could be carefully examined. Motion carried.. Communioation under date July 21st, 1914, requesting that aome lights be placed on First Street between Proutt Ave and Ave H. was read by the clerk.. Communication signed by John Marks and about fifteen others. Moved by H. G. Ralston and seconded by J. A. McDonald that oommunioation be reoeived and referred to committeeman on Fire with power to aot. Motion oarried. The following resolution was introduced by Councilman Ralston: RESOLUTION N0. A 5TJ BE IT RESOLVED, By the city council of the oity of Miami, Florida, That sealed bids are invited to be filed with the city olerk at the pity hall by 73o p.m., on the 20th day of Aug. 1914, at wh hioh time theyseill be opened byte oity oounoil of the oity of Miami, Florida, for paving of certain streets in the city of Miami with asphaltic oonorete, bituiithio, asphaltic block, vitrified briok and wood block, of approximately 55,000 yardage, together with the neoeseary curbs, gutters, drains, sewers and miscellaneous items therefor. Plans and specifications oan be seen at the offioe of the engineer, 52 Real Estate building, Miami. These bias ire merely for the purpose of determining the kind of paving to be selected by the oounoil, as formal bids for the kind to be thus selected will be hereafter advertised and reoeived by the oity council. Filer that resolution No. S be adopted. 0n roll call the vote was as follows: J. A. McDonald, yes; E. omfh, yes; H. G. Ralston, yes; C. Hefty, Yes; F. G. Erfert, yes; C. F. Filer, yes; Councilman McDonald addressed the council, stating that he thought oounoil • should act very carefully in the matter; that promises had been made to the people in the northern part of the city ana they should be taken oars of and part of mthe mono to be reoeived from the sale of bonds spent to develope that seotion. That in his opinion the proper thing to do was to get together by committee and o over the whole situation, find out exactly where the oity stood financially; that he would like to know if all the sewers contemplated were neoeseary and if natural drainage could not be depended upon to to a greater extent and eliminate some of the sewers. • Hereupon, Engineer Klyoe stated that he had r evised the plans very oarefully and in his opinion no sewers could be eliminated and proper drainage afforded. Councilman Ralston advised oounoil that he also thought the people of the outlying districts should be taken oars of and that plans for sanitary sewers for * that part of the oity are being prepared. Moved by E. 0. Romfh and seconded by J. A. McDonald that the City Auditor be i nstr.oted to draw a vouoher in favor of the Miami Stook Yards for #325.00, to pay for a mule for use by the sanitary department. Motion carried. Counoil had a general discussion on the matter of a building inspootor and the . . separation of the office of building and plumbing inspector. After each oounoilman had expressed himself at great length the matter was passed without action. The question of changing from Central to Eastern Standard time was again brought up and atter some discussion the following action was made: Mbved by H. G. Ralston and seconded by O. Hefty, that tho oity adopt Masters time in all its departments. On roll oall the vote was as follows: J. A. McDonald, no; E. O. Rooth, no; H. G. Ralston, yes; C. Hefty, yes; O. T. Tiler, no; T. G. Wort, no. Motion lost. Ohalrman here adjourned this meeting until Monday, July 27th, 1914, 7.$0 p.m. ATTEST: City Clerk.
