Hefty, J.A.Conred, J. A. McDonald. 00M?J UN I CA`TI ONS . To The City Council, eel, Florid a. Gentlemen: - April 2, 1914. I beg herewith to report to Your Honorable Body Coat after consultation with Police Committeeman, grfert, and Chief 'ef Police Whitson, I have dismissed from the Police Force W. M. )temedith, J. W. Williams, D. F. Buaiek and J. J. Combs. My reason for this is not because these men were not doing tfieir duty, but because I do not believe that their services ore new re giired. Since the winter season has some to a close thous ends of people have left the city, W-o wore here for the season only, among when were several supposed Brooks, who had tc be wstshed and followed closely; besides, in order that the sewers xid street paving eould be put down, the streets were badly torn up and re giired one or two men to continually watch after them to see that no accidents occurred. It gives ire pleasure to state that under the supervision of Clef WhitmEn, the Pollee Department of our city Ivo rendered efficient servies through the entire seeoeri. To sly knowledge, they have chased out of the eittiy several whose reputation was such, that had theybeen allowed to remain, they would doubtless have undertaken to have pulled off one or mere of their hold-up genes. No burglaries or robberies to any extent have been reported. The personnel' of the Police Force is first-e1*ss in every respect end should have the hearty support of the entire community. Asking your endorsement of my actions in this matter, Rasp esttully suboitt ed, (Signed) J. W. W'tson, Mayor. Moved by J. A. Conrad, seconded by C. Hefty, that the Asti on of the Mayot' be approved. Motion oorried. April 2, 1914. To The City Council, Miami, Florida. (Gentlemen: - In regera to the street ear franchise, will state that I have reeeived six answers, to the edvertisenment, that looks very slush like business to -ar.- Most of them wanteu maps of the city, together with any and all other informotisn I could pobsibly give then. I have sent then, themaps, and given then, a sopy of the advertisement that I had running in the M,tauuf asturer's Reserd. Possibly within the next two reeks one or mere of them might make us a proposition. Their aommunieotions are new on file in any office, where aroy of you gentlemen, who wish to do se, can read them. Reap eetfully, (Signed) J. W. Woteon, Mayor. :.coved by C. !lefty) seconded by H. C.Ralsten, t hat seuriunioation i• reeeived and filed. Motion carried. Marsh 10, 1914. Hon. City Council, MI*ti, 'Fla. Gents: - We are new paying the Dade.Co. Fair Premiums end Are needing your donation. Please have vsrrent drawn in our favor, andoblige. Yours respeotfully, (Signed) J. J. Wilson, Tress. Moved by H. G. Itelston, seconded to the Finenee Committeemen, wdth power to Mr. O. hefty, Fire Comi:titteeman, City. C. Hefty, that the matter be referred et. Motion serried. April 2, 1914. Dear Sir: - In cher:king over the bills subu.itted to nie by W. 13. Moore, City Clerk, I notiee that Fire Cider, Chase, has purshosed recently 55000 ft. of 410 Waterproof Wire, and for which he agreed to pay $782.18. .,elieving this price to .1e exhorbit ant, I wrote to the Manufacturer's Agent, selling wire of this kind, end they giote ice this wire et 4/,;18. ‘ 10 per hundred lbs. delivered et Miami. The 55,000 ft. would weigh approximately 2915 lbs. end At 18 eta. per lb. would cost $524.70, showing s nifferene• of $257.48 that the city loses by net buying this wire from he ad cp actors. I else note that he has bought one 12 in. Excelsior gong, for w1 ieh he agreed to pay $80.00. I de not know this particular gong, but I have giot atione en several Eleotro Meshonioal gongs, End the highest prised one dieted in the catalogue would cost about $ .00, delivered et Miami. TIs is also paying $77.50 for fire alarm boxes. This may be for this p artisul ar box cheap, ee I do not knew, but I do know, that we are gioted fire alarm boxes thet are rseomntendsd by the menufeeturer for a great deal less money. The wire referred to was bought from 0 `.fiend dealer, end while I A only too anxious to patronize the Miami her sh ants wttriS their prices are within reason, we a ennot afford to pay 501 profit on F, pursh ese of that size. I wish you would please take this up with Mr. Ch owe, end have him in the future to et least sunsuit the Purer using Agent before buying large gt entities of materiel. Yours very truly, (Signed) J.W.Wetson, Mayor. Mo. ed by E.C.Ronfh, seconded by H. G. Ralston, that eummunicotion be referred b ask to -ire Committeeman for investigation . Motion carried.
