Adjourned meeting of council to order by the chairman. Members present:

The following reports of the Auditor showing the ealence of city euncis in
the bank October 31st. were read.

Finance Committeeman Romfh notified council that a note against the City
for t 1500 held by the Web Motor Co. erns passed due a 'i he would like permission to pe
pay A.

The high pressure main again care up and er. Rom('h reported that in his
telegram he did not mean for the pipe to he ordered from it,bet at the same time ne
thought it would he economy to go anead.The mayor wanted to know o' er. Romeh if he nd
had seen the contract with tne Hotel. Compan. .'fir. Rond h had not. but sail that he
tied talked with the Underwriter man,and he informed hip, that a pump for the nigh pre e
ure main could he installed by the city at n cost of about 13000.Cp',ncilman Conrad was
in favor of utt ins; in the high pressure syetem,ane thought that it shoeld be put down
under tee supervision of the Consulting en;;;ineer. Council man McDonald was aleo in
fever of it. After discussine it for some time,tle followenemotion was made:

The Mayor brought to the attention of tee old counc,il,the number of petitin
ns tnat had been presented asking that the officeof Building any: Plumbing Tnspec:tor
be eivided,and an inspector matte for each department. and enuld like for the old coun
cil.to consider the change.
TKe Mayor took the floor nd spoke very nicely of the old council,concpli-
menting them on their efficiency and tne great amount of wore doneby them,and said the
in all his experience he had never seen a body of _.en that were no raithflil to their
trust and 11 could always he found on their jobs. The old council talked over several
matters in coenection witn the last two years,and all teoeght that tne,y had done
everything that could be done by them,before the new council came in. _Amer discu'-ee

Tne clerk read the name of the newly elected eouncilmen,whicn were Charles

The Mayor then s','ore in all the councilmen in a hody,each one repeating
tne oath after him as prescribed by ordinance.

animous vote for J.A.McDonald. Motion carried. The chairman tcleclared 0.A.Mc1onald
elected Corunttee man on Docks and Parks for the next two years.
The next matter that came up was the election of a city attorney.
F.C.Romfh nominated 11.F.Aurdine. JT.(t.Ralston nominated A.J.Rose, J.A.Conred nom-
inated J.L.Billingsley.
Moved by H.C.Ralton and eeconled by e.A.Mcnonele that nominations close.
motion carried.
The vote was taken by ballot,and it was found that W.F.Herdine received
two votes, A.J.'ose three votes, and J.L.Hillingsley two votes. As neitner cnndidee
received a riadority of the votes,a second ballot was taken. which resulted as foll-
ows; Burdine three - votes, A.J.Roee three "otes,and J.L.Billingsley one vote. As neib
neither candidate eeceived a majority,a third ballot was taken,which resulted as
folios; RUrdine three votes, A.J.Rose four votes,and d.L.Rillingsley none.
A.J .Rose having received a me jority of the vote: polled,wee declared elected city
attorney for the next two years.
The next natter that came up was the election of a Chief for the fire
Department. C.ifefty nominated Henry Chase.
Moved by H.e.Raleton and eeconcied by e.A.eonrari that noeinetions be
cloeed.Hotion carried.
Moved by e.Hefty end seconded by d . A.McDone, l i tnet the clerk cast a un-
animous vote for il. P. Chase for Cheif of the Fire Depaetment.N.R.Cnese was declared
elected Chief of the Fire Department for the next two years.

for the good of the city,and assuring; them that ti ey would always Pine plenty to 'io.
Consulting Engineer f(azelhurst wanted to know how the Council wanted
the pipe for the high pressure main laid,and also if it was meant tnet he should
seperintend the work, noting* t at if he was,he did not want it to betnrded in the wok
work by everybody claiming they had something to do with it, anti sugat stets that one
alderman he eelected to work in r;onjun tion with him,ane would also like to know
what pipe to put in etc. had been orderers.

Consulting; Engineer Ilazelhurst said that in layiee the tee storm seweers
a lot of difficulty was being encountered,by different kind of pipe being laid in the
track with sewer,and advised council that it had been leeieed by court that the city
had the riget of way for all street improvements and that where other piper were info
the way of pipes being laid by the city,the o rners eed t! a move teem at teeir own exp
pense,and cited the case that was tried and decided for the city of New Orleans.

Consulting Engineer iazelhurst furnished en estimate of the amount
of work that had been done by the Southern Asphalt anti euntitruetion eo. which he said
was to be furnished the end of each eonthto show the amount due the 'oripany for work
done up to that time less the 20: as per contract.
