The Mayor brought to the attention of tee old counc,il,the number of petitin ns tnat had been presented asking that the officeof Building any: Plumbing Tnspec:tor be eivided,and an inspector matte for each department. and enuld like for the old coun cil.to consider the change. TKe Mayor took the floor nd spoke very nicely of the old council,concpli- menting them on their efficiency and tne great amount of wore doneby them,and said the in all his experience he had never seen a body of _.en that were no raithflil to their trust and 11 could always he found on their jobs. F.C.Romfh nominated 11.F.Aurdine. JT.(t.Ralston nominated A.J.Rose, J.A.Conred nom- inated J.L.Billingsley. Moved by H.C.Ralton and eeconled by e.A.Mcnonele that nominations close. motion carried. The vote was taken by ballot,and it was found that W.F.Herdine received two votes, A.J.'ose three votes, and J.L.Hillingsley two votes. As neitner cnndidee received a riadority of the votes,a second ballot was taken. which resulted as foll- ows; Burdine three - votes, A.J.Roee three "otes,and J.L.Billingsley one vote. As neib neither candidate eeceived a majority,a third ballot was taken,which resulted as folios; RUrdine three votes, A.J.Rose four votes,and d.L.Rillingsley none. A.J .Rose having received a me jority of the vote: polled,wee declared elected city attorney for the next two years. The next natter that came up was the election of a Chief for the fire Department. Consulting; Engineer Ilazelhurst said that in layiee the tee storm seweers a lot of difficulty was being encountered,by different kind of pipe being laid in the track with sewer,and advised council that it had been leeieed by court that the city had the riget of way for all street improvements and that where other piper were info the way of pipes being laid by the city,the o rners eed t! a move teem at teeir own exp pense,and cited the case that was tried and decided for the city of New Orleans.
