The eity council Jet on August 25,1913, at 8 *tee esk A.M. as a Beard ef
Hqualizatien,in accordance with the Charter of the City of Miami,and pursuant to legal
notice having first been given, a copy of the notice being incorporated here in, for the
purpose of inspeeting the assessment rolls ef the taxable property in the City of
Miami,for the year 1913, as presented by Tax Assessor, T.C.Hinton,and for the further
purpose of hearing any complaints that might be presented by any tax payer or taw
payers as to the over or undervaluation of any particular Piece er pieces of property
and after hearing to make such reductions or increases as the Board of Equalization mig
might deem just and equitable.
Members present: E.F.Holmes, R.O.Watson,F.G.Frfert, E.C.Romfh and J.A.
McDonald. and T.C.Hinton, Tax Assesaor,present.
T.E.Lilly appeared before the Board with reference to lot Block
North,stating that this was now the property of "'he First Christian Churehand wished
to know if same was assessed. Mr. Lilly was informed that the property was Exempt.
Mrs. E.A.Bolt and '.(rs.Curry appeared b,fore the Board with reference to
lot 4 and 5 of block 60 North. Both stated they were widows And asked for a reduction
equal to exemptions. Each were informed that the complaints would be considered
before the Board adjourned.
Dr. d.L.11olmberg appeared before the Board with reference to assessments
against Avenue D property between 7th and 8th streeta,stated that he thgought property
on Avenue C was<valuable as property on Avenue D; also,that in hi:, opinion drat
property on 12th street between Avenue B and Court Street was worth $1000 per front
foot. Dr. was of the opinion that his property was a; sessed in proportion to other
property of like value on Avenue—D.
Ca t. W.FI.Mslntyre, appeared before the Board relative to his property
on 14th street and also on west 12th street,and while he complained of the large in-
crease in the assessed value of hks properties,yet after he was shown the a ssessed
value of his various neighbors properties,admitted that it was in proportion,and pro
perly equalized.
The Board examined each lot and block, beginning with lot 1 of block 1N
and so on through to Miami River,excepting land described by metes and bounds,all of
which was Oound to be in proportion.
The lands so described were to be taken up on the morrow (26th) and south
of Miami River.
The Board of Equalization adjourned bb 4 P.M. to meet August 26th,1913.

Members present; J.A.Conrad, E.F.Holnes, F.G.Erfert, 6.A.1,(cDonald, E.C.Romfh, Tax
Assessor,"_'. C.Hinton.
Board toov up equalization of properties described by metes and bounds,and
_ found same well in line. Also, lots and blokks and properties described by metes and
bounds, south of river,assessnents were closely examined and found in line with other
assessments.
Assessor stated he thought improvement assessed on lot 13 of block 18 North,%
and Lot 16 of block 18 North should be reduced from *700 to $250. Memorandum was made
of same for future action.
Assessment of $200,000 on Hotel loyal Palm and grounds was believed by Board
to be excessive. This property is a great advertisement for the City of 1(iami,and also
it was shown that the assessment on the other large hotel (Halcyon Hall) had been
raised from $30,000 to $55,000 while the assessment aga net the Royal Palm hotel had
been raised from $75,000 to $200,000.
Mr. John B.Reilly appeared before the board in this matter later in the day
and asked that the board give a reduction every consideration. Also the riparian rights
assessment.
