Regular meeting of council called to o der by the chair,an,F.G.Erfert. Members
present: F. G. Erfert, . A.MeDonald,J. A. Conrad,E. F.Holmes,C. Hefty,E. C.Romfh and R.O.
Watson.
A communication addressed to F. G. Erfert was read from C.L. Pri ce of Denver, Col
in which Mr. Price stated that in answer to the notice ordering him to put down side-
walks,waa just received by him,and that it really did not give him but 20 days instead
of 40,and that he would prefer waiting till fall,when he came down to put down the
pavement.
Moved by 1'.C.Romfh and seconded by J.A.Conrad that no action on Mr. Frees'
letter be taken. Motion carried.
A letter was read from J.T.Sanders, attorney for t'e Miami Telephone Co.
in w',ich he reqnested council tce lay out and designate the right street line of Waddel
Avenue,so that they would be able to locate their poles. Th
The chair noted that it would beimposaible to comply with their request until
the new part of the city was properly platted.
Moved by C.Hefty and seconded by R.F.tiolmes that the communication be received
and filed. Motion carried.

Moved by R.O.Watson and seconded by C.hefty that that the city engineer be A
instructed to prepare a profile and present same to oouncil. Motion carried.
The petition was read Von the colored citizens of colored town asking council
to install lights on Avenue H.At this time the Committeeman on Streets presented a lit
list of lights that he thought ought to be installed in which this street was included
July 3,1913.

The Commissioner of Streets recommends that the following lights be installd
5 lights on Biscayne Ave. to complete circ'tit to Buena Vista.
1 light corner Ave.D and Buena Vista road.
llight corner Ave.D and Street eastof Buena Vi.staRoad.
All other lights in Buena vista, within the city limits since the new charter
became effective, to be continued and paid for by the city, with the exception of one
light on Buena Vista dock, an one on private grounds of the Fu iler place.
Also' install:
8 1'ghts on Avenue H from 4th St. north.
1 light on 1st street between Ave. G and Ave.H.

ed be installed by the Committeeman on Streets be referred to that Committeeman with p
power to act. Motion carried.
Finance Committeeman Romfh brought to the attenti,n of council that the com-
mittee had purchased the lot for the new fire station and he would like tor council to
authorize the proper official to sign a note given for same.
Moved by J.A.McDonald and seconded by J.A.Conrad, that the city execute
note for the lot purchased for the fire department,provided the deed be satisfactory
to the city attorney,and the proper official be instructed to sign same in behalf of
the city. Motion carried.

Committeeman Watson asked for a telephone to he established in Hardieville
and one on the South aide somewhere on 20th street,near Avenue '".,so that his police-
men could send in calls when arrests were made in that territory.
Moved by C.Hefty and sec'mded by J . A .Conrad that Committeeman on Police be
authorized to have the two telephones installed as dequested. Motion carried.
Committeeman Conrad wanted four fire alarm boxes installed with lights attach-
ed,producing several cuts of different makes.This matter was referred until some
future time.
The mayor called attention of cooncil to extending the fire district so that
it would embrace all of Twelfth street,between the railroad and river,as he thought
that it would some day be a business street and there were a lot of little shacks goi
going up on it.
The chairman announced that as bids had been advertised for the sale of $25,000
Revenue Ponds,that the clerk would read the bids:

The chair also said as there were some city work to be done,in paving and
sewering streets,and as this was the time advertised for bids to be opened,the clerk we
instructed to read bids.
The bids for paving North River drive from 8th street to Avenue L and from

After all t'e bids were read,it was decided to withhold them till a later meeting.
And the following motion was made:
Moved byE. C.Romfh and seconded by C.Tieft:/ that the clerk tabulate the bids,and
find the lowest bidders,and furnished council next Thursday night with names and amount
of bids. Motion carried.

the name of the lowest bidders,the checks of the unsuccessful bidders be returned to
them. Notion carried.
The matter of employing an expert engineer to supervise the work contemplated
as soon as the bonds are sold,now came up.The ?Mayor was present and introduced
correspondencefrom several expert engineers,showing their price for doing such work

The chairman then opened the question for discussion,and asked any gentleman pre-
sent to address council on the subject. Mr. E.G.Sewell, E.B.Douglas and nearly all of
the 12th street merchants were present,all were in favor of employing an expert to
superintend the work,and all were in favorof the city employing J.N.Hazelhurst,as
the expert engineer. After discussing the question for some time,the following
ration was made:
Moved by E.C.Romfh and seconded by J.A.McDonald that J.N.Ha ielhurst be employed
as expert engineer to supervise the co .struction of the paving and sewering,ns per
contract introduced.It is understood that the contract with Mr. Hazelhurst becomes
null and void if the sale of the Bonds fail to materialize,end the city is not to
be held any way liable if the Bonds fail to sell. Upon roll call,the vote was as
follows: F.G.Erfert yes, E.C.Romfh yes, C.Hefty yes, E.F.Tlolmes yes, J.A.McDonald yes,
R.O.Watson es, J.A.COnrad yee,Motion carried.
Fire co►;Jniteeman Holmes spoke in reference to ge'ting busy on the high pre: zure
system.
The chairman informed the committeeman that nothing could be done until the con-
tract with the Hotel Co. was signed and accepted. After discussing it for some tine
the following motion was made:

for bids for the pipe necessary for a high pressu a system as per the plans submitted p
byt the Fire Chief. Motion carried.
Councilman Holmes said that as alot had been purchased for the new Fire Station,
he would like that bids be advertised for the construction of the :station.
Moved by J.A.McDnald and seconded by E.C.Romfh that the clerk be instructed to ad-
vertise for bids for the construction of a fire station,plans and specifications to
be furnished by the committeeman on Public Buildings,council reserving the right to
reject any or all bids. Motion carried.
Finance Committeeman Romfh brought to the attention of council the necessity of
pw.hing the collection pf personal taxes.
Moved by E.C.Romfh and seconded by E.F.i[olmes that the matter of collection of
personal taxea be referred to the Mayor,with power to act in the natter. Motion carried
Councilman Hefty notified council that as he understood it,hhe Fire Depart: ent
was going to let him have one of their horses in his department,but now the Fire Chief
claimed that his department could not spare the horse until they got their new appara-
tue.The matter was referred to Committeeman on Sanitation to work out as best he could

The clerk notified council that as yet no salary had been fixed for Mr.
Bunnell,who was employed as Sanitary Inspector,after discussing it fbr some time,the fa
