Members present: F.G.Erfert, R.O.Watson, J.E.Lummus,C.Hefty, J.A.Conrad ,R.O.Watson and E.C.Romfh. Minutes of November 14th were read. 21st. were read. The Chairman ordered that as there were no errors or omsions, the minutes would stand as read. The chair announced that this meeting had been called principally to consider the lighting of the business section for the season,but before gong into it, would take up any petitions. Miami,Fla. Dec.12,1912. To the Honorable City Council, City of Miami. Gentlemen: We understand that there is a proposition t change the lighting system on 12th street and Avenue D for the coming season, we theun dersigned merhants of Miami, wish to request you to retain the string system of lights, as we were well pleased with the , and consider them a good advsrtisement for Miami during the tourist season. And prete them to any syste that has been proposed. (Signed)John Sewell be Bro. and about all the merchants on Twe,fth Street. A like petition from the merchants on Avenue D. along the same line,waa presentd akking council to retain the chain of lights system. The chair announced that he would like to hear from the Light people on the subject. Dr. McGonigle, Supt. was present and enlightened council on the new system that had been talked about,thet is, installing two hundred candle power lights at the corners, claiming thzt a bettor system of lighting would be produced,and produced a lot of figures whereby it was shown that by adopting the new system, a better system of lighting would be had,and at a much less cost. Mr.Avery also was present,and gave some valuable information. Moved by C.Hefty and seconded by EC.Romfh thatapetit on be received and Piled, motion carried. Moved by J.E.Lunaaus and seconded by J.A.Conrad that further action on petitions be deferred until tomorrow night at 7:30 P.M. and all merchants signing petitions be caked to be present.Motion carried. Hon.City Council, Gentlemen: Miami,Fla.Nov.12,1912. I request permission to erect a two-story garage 'or Dr. Henry B. Hollon,on a lot of J.Austins Halls addition to 20th. Street between hrckell Ave.and the Bay. (Signed) John W.King. Moved by C.Hefty and seconded by E.C.Romfh that appliationbe referred to com- mitteeman on buidings, with power to ect. Motion carried. W.E. f,.Wadham asked to erect a temporary buiding at the corner of Avenue D. and 1211 Street. Moved by E.C.Romfh and seconded by C.Hefty that application be denied. Motion carried. J.W.Chase of the Plaza Hotel,asked permission to erect an awning in front o of the hotel and over the side walks. Moved by J.E.Lummus and seconded by C.Hefty that permit be granted, s'ibJect to the approval of comitteeman on public buildings. Motion carried. A communication from E.Ben Carter and also one from F.h.Shutts in reference to lighting Average E in front of the new depot,was read. Moved by J.E.Lummus and seconded by C.Hefty that co:.munication be received and filed, and that Mr. Shutts be advised that the City will take care of the lighting of Avenue E in front of the depot grounds. City Council, Gentlemen: Kindly grant rye a permit to erect abuilding of concrete blocks said building to be erected on Avenue G between 6th and 7th :streets, (Signed) Joe English. Moved by J.A.Conrad and seconded by J.E.yummus that permit be granted. Motion carried. A communication was read from W.N.Hull addressed to J.A.Conrad,asking that four lights be placed at the four corners of Avenue D and 18th. Street,Avenue D and 20th. St. Brickell Ave. and 18th St. and Brickell Ave. h 20th St. Moved by J .E.Lummus and seconded by J . A. Conrad that communication be r eived, and the matter taken up laser. motion carried. A permit was asked for by Mr. RHarles Thpmpson, to erect abuildingy, between Burdines store and R.W.Rhodes Stone.for exhibition purposes. Moved by J.E.Lummze and seconded by Edw. C.Romfh that permit be denied. Motioncarri ed. N.B.Keeney asked F'or a permit to erect a two story house on the west side of Avenue G between loth and llth Street. Moved by .I . r.Llimmus and Fec .nded by 0 . A. Conrad that permit begranted. "uticir cerrid. A communication was read from J.E.Lummus resigning as councilman to take effect January lst,1913, one was also read from, C.L.Huddleston,resiging as City Auditor to take effect January lst,1913, 'wed by ,I.A.Conrad and seconded by C.hefty that the communications be received and action be deferred on the resignations until the work of the auditor is so that he can mhke a final report to council. Motion carried. Miami,Florida, Dee.12,1912. Honorable City Council, City of Miami,Fla. Gentlemen: I beg to report that the picture of Mr. Fla4er was secured by me for the City Hall at no cost to the city other than the cost of framing it and a bill against the city in the sum of $3.00 has been O.K.'ed by me and is now in the City's ?ilea. I have arranged with Mr. Kaufman to furnish the pictures of 'firs. Tattle and Ex —Mayor Smith, which he will do some time in the next two months and as soon AS they are delivered to me I will deliver there to the City with his bill, to -;ether with a bill for framing them. Moved by C.Hefty and seconded by J.A.Conrad that report be received and copied in the minutes. Motion cerri ed. Councilman Lummu: asked council to give him the authority to instruct the auditor not to issue any more orders to any employees er crbditorsof the city ,for amounts due them by the city. Council failed to pass a motion to this effect. The chair ordered an adjourned meeting until Friday evening, December 13th, 1912, at 7 P.M. Attest Y' City clerk. President City G6uncil.
