Regular meeting of council galled to order by C.Mefty, actin; chairman.
Members present: C.Hefty, J.A.Conrad, F.r.Tsolmes, l.J..'cDoneld and 1.7.»;.Erfert.
The clerk turned over to council theba?lot box that was used for the
election of meyor,speeial eleetionheld July 16th.
Moved Tay J.A.Conrad and seconded by F.F.Holmes that council prosbed to canvass
the returns of said special election held July 16th, for mayor to fill out the un-
expired term of S.Rodmond Smith,aa made by the inspectors and clerk of said election.
The ballot box pr_perly sealed was opened by council and they proceeded to canvass the
returns. The vote being as foll ,we:

loved by E.F.uolrres and seconded by J.A.Conrad that thersturneof inspectors and
clerk of the special election held July 16th be received and accepted,and it
appearing that J.W.Watsn received the majority of votes cast, he be declared elected b
to fill out the unexpired term of ex -mayor S.Rodrrond Srrith,reaigned.

mayor F.C.Erfert, after wnich he assumed his duti.-s as mayor of tne cit;; of Miami.
Acting mayor F.R.Erfert being relieved of tne duties gs acting; mayor,assumed
his position as chairman of the council. Councilman lefty. occupying his desk as
councilman.
A c •mmunication to council in the manner of a complaint from the Miami Fist. Co.
protesting against the service now being rendered by the bridge tender at Avenue D.
claiming that the bridge tenders were often away from the bridge anal they had to wait
for tne draw to be opened, which Made it dangerous where they had to run their boats
in and turn ar ound.

and filed and the bridge tend ers be instructed to stay at their place of duty or tney
will be di: charged. Motion carried.

their investigation.
A protest }'rc,m Dairyman Fritz was r •ad in whhch he strongly opposed the way of
handling; milk as proposed by the council. Councilman 'icDonild replied to the protest
giving the various reasons wu y council should adopt the proposed regulatione,and
reading a leetter from the mayor of Tampa,which showed that Tampa was working along
the same lines as we are now to adopt.
Food Inspector Foseey atrngly urged that all dairy cattle should be tested for
tuberlin.
Councilman. cDonald addressed council in reference to the advisability or creatig
a veterinary department of the city and regularly -employing a veterinary surgeon
'"oved by C.Flafty end seconded by •I.A.Conrad that the city attorney be requested
to draw e n ordinance creating the office of veterin' ry surgeon for the city."Totion
carried.

for Bale or distribution in tl e city of•Miarii,Fla.
