Mrs Sibyl Jenkins appearod before council and asked to he relived of the street improvement lien thatthe city holds against her property,claiming that she had the street filled in before it was paved. . Moved by M.O.McDonald and seconded by C.Hefty that ce tificate of indebted- n".es numbers 1199 and 1200, representing $23.44 and $23.46 respectively , assessed against lots 2 and 3 of block 40 north,be ordered canoe lled. by clerk and aolleoor and that he be given credit for same.,and that a copy of the resolution be filed with the City Auditor. To the ronorab le Cuncil of the City of Maimi, Gentlemen; Your attention is respectfully tailed to the recemtunwarranted arrest of myself by policeman No. 10 on a trifling charge which was not susta ned by the court, resulting mot only in great personal annoyance but also in injury to my business. I do not wish to put the city to extra expense but in viewof t e above facts, request; that in justice to all concerned, the Chief of Police be instructedto print in the Miami Metropolie and Morning Herald a public apology for the error for which he was responsible. A communication was read from Mrs. Ada S.Jenkins nnd al oo from '"!t s. Dr. J.W.Warner claiming that they were widows nd 1,rcii' means of support were such ar to make itvery hard for them to pay a city tax on their property,and asked council 2 to relieve them of paying city taxes. 4 M ved by J . E. Lummus and seconded by t;. F. Holmes tht if Mrs. Warner end Mrs. Jenkins will give satisfactory evidence that they arenot worth $100() over all en- cumbrances,the matter of exemption will be considered by council. Motioncarried. Mr. W.S.Dickereon reported to council that he had in his possession some trees that had ben turned over to him by council several years ago and that in his opinion, that kind of tree was not suitable for this country,and thought as it was an expense on the city to keep them any longer,he thought some disposition should be made of = them stating that his bill to date would be $12.50. Moved by J.E.Lummus and seconded by R.O.Wateon that warrant be drawn in favor of W.S.Dickinon for 112.50 as per bill rendered forcare of treee,and that the trees he turned over to the committeeman on parka and doeks until disposed of. Motion carried. Mr. Billingsley addressed council in reference to the condemnat •-n suittne city had on in reference to the F.E.C.Ry Co.stating that he had conferred with Hr. Boggs as to his aseistinghim and that Mr. Bogie stated that he would with the amount that outside partis had agreed to put uptake the case inthe circuit court only, the city to pay him $500,and that if the case went to theeupreme court,he cou.1 not state now what the charge would be. The fee of $500 only applying for hie service in the oircuit court. Mr. Lummus addressed council strongly opposing th- employing of addition/ council. Mr. iiolmee stated that he as still infavor of giving the city council help as h he believed the people wanted the case pushed vigorously. That section 159 of the code of the city of Miami be and the ame is he eby amended so as to read as follows: "Section 159. In the event of the birth of a child withinthe corporate limits of the city of Miami, it shall be the duty of the attending physician or if there be no physician, of the midwife or other attendant upon the mother, to report the same within forty eight hours to the City Health officer,and file a certificate of birth,spee ying theplace and time of birth, the color,sez and descent of the child, and the name, occupation, age and descentof the father and mother,anri other details required by the City Board of Health upon blanks furnished f r that purpose.
