Recess Meeting oelled to order by Chairman Erfert. members preflent r'.G.
Erfert, J.A.Conrad, J.1 .Lummus, M.J."cDenald, C.hefty and E.?.1tolmes.
The Chairman announced that the meeting was for the puree of discussing the
ordinance regulating the handling and storage of gasoline) oile etc. and that (:oun
ail would like to hea r from all the representatives of the Oil Co mpanys located
in Miami present.
Mr. C.D.Le ffler and also his att rney)lt.B.Gautler, addressed council
they were followed by Mr. !.Uzelle of the Standard 0i1 Co. and MQr. Taylor representing
the erude oil Co. All of them stating emphatically that there was no danger to be
apprc ended from the present *ay the gas and oil is handled, giving as their
most tangible proof that the Insurance Companys did not look upon the stoage of gas
as hazardous and it did not effect the insurance rate at all in Miami.
Opposing the 0i1 mens argument, Mr. G. A.McYinnen,Mr . Branning and Mr. Briekell
addressed council,giving their side,not ng the many dangers in allowing the eil
gasoline, ete.to be stored in the populous part of town, and claiming that their
property was being depreciated by eing so close to the tanks. Fire Chief Chase
gave a scientific address priving soneluaively themany hazards attendant,and cited
the many instances that sonf1egrations end accidents had oceured from the explosion
of gasoline.
After consuming several hours in discussion by all present and the hour
being late, eouncil decided to adjourn.
