Communication:
Miami,Fla.,June,2nd,1910.
Hon.Board of Alderman,
City of Mi'mi,Fle.
Gentlemen; -
I beg to return herewith resolution adopted by your Hon.Board,at meeting
October,21st,1909, in which certain credits are to be given the City Attorney, baeed on
a report made by the City .Attorney.
The resolution is not in proper form,as you will notice by reforing to the form
prescribed and use: by the City Attorney,in a resolution adopted at a meeting,March,5th,
19O8,which resolution also includes a part of the property included in the repott made
a part od this resolution.
The amount of Court Cost you desire credited to the Attorney rue not specified in
either the resolution or Vie report; and should be in connection with each lot in item-
ized form.
Further reforing to the six lots i:s Block 26 North, no explanation is made as to
why the full amount of taxes and Court Coste, aggregating about '25.00,should be comprom-
ised for N6.90: There is no apparent overcharge in the taxes; and if there was any
trouole in effecting the collection ef the $25.00 attorney's fees,it is not mentioned.
As the matter str=nda with this resolution, with full sceess to tie City Reeorda,I
am unable to assign any reason why a compromise settlement of these taxes and Court
Costs is necessary; and if a compromise is neceseary, why the aao'ant collected should
be divided $6.90 to the City and "25.00 to the Att rney, with an actual loss of $17.89
to the City.
And at; the re',orda should be specifically clear,to be underFtood without explanation
I nave no doubt you will agree with me that an amended r.esolution, giving full informa-
tion in these cases should be prepared and adopted.
Yours very truly,
(Signed) C.h.Huddleston,
Aoditor.
Moved by ^_'.N.Gautier and seconded by h.Granger that t e comrnsnicatiun frog the
Aeditor be received and copied in the m.nutea and the matter be refered to the Commit-
temhn on Finance: Motion carriers.

Communication:
St.Auguetine,Fle.,May,23rd,1910.
Mr. A.H.Adams,
City Clerk,
M1aml,Fla.
Dear Sir; -
Your fevop of the 21st,quoting from the minutes of the proceedings of the
Miami City Council, at their regular meeting held on the sth,day of Moy,1910,request-
ing that Fourth Street be opened across the right of way and tracks of the Florida
Rest Coast Railway.
A crossing at Fourth Street waif never contemplated by this Company; and in sub-
dividing the City into streets, they were only laid out up to the right of way line.
Provision was made for streets extending North and South parallel with our right
ow way to permit teams to reach the crossing at First Street and Seventh Street: If
you have examined the situation yourself, you will note that to cross at Fourth Street
it must be over five tracks and one of these is our main line track leading South and
the other, the North Ara of the "Y" which leads to the Passenger Station, both of
which are used very frequently; and a crossing at this point would be extremely unsat-
isfactory to the public.
It is hoped that the City Council will see their way clear to withdraw the re-
quest.
Yours truly,
(Signed) E.Ben Carter.
.'oved by J.J.holly and seconded by L.Granger that the Communication from Mr.E.
Ben Carter be received and filed and that t-.e City Clerk be instructed to orlvise Mr.
Carter that a crossing at Fourth Street was no doubt apparently unneeeesary in the
early days of Miami, but that the development or the City has been so far in excess of
our anticipations, that it is pound advisable to do some things Viet were not contem-
plated then; and this in the opinion of to City Council is :. matter that should be
given consideration and action as soon as it is possible to do so without working too
great a hardship on the Company; and Vat the City insist that he give it hie personal
attention and consideration: Motion carried.

Gentlemen; -
I hereby tender this my report for the month of May,1910.
The City has been looked after and is in good condition: The Dump Grounds is well
kept; and teams doing good work from a sanitary standpoint.
I would teepectfully cell your attention to the manner in which fre:ih meets are
taken from the cold -storage to the mar} -eta to be sold to 'Vie people; the meats are
thrown in an open wagon and taken through the atreete, while the filthy dust is blown
on same.
I would call your attention also to the foot of Seventh Street on the Boulevard,
as to the smell, I think it is caused by the filth thrown from the Band-bank,near
Seventh Street on the Bay, generally known as Chrisea Ialand, that was:ces to shore.
I herewith hand you check for Two Hundred ani Twenty Five Dollars, eollected in May.
Respectfully,
(Signed) R.B.Neilson,
Chief of Sanitation.
