August 31et, 1908, On account of the nature of the material of our streete pavement, be- coming soft after a rain, where stock are allowed to stand on 12th, street, at our aide door, where our we ons stand soon becomes in an unsanitary eondition, which cannot be remedied with our present paving maternal on account of the softness, but with your permission, end without any expense to the City we will pave with vetrified brick that portion of the street which our teams gccupy, cov- ering a space of 30 or 40 feet long and 10 or 12 feet wide: We will make a brick or cement waterway along sidewalk curbing to the manhole (catch bason) at corner of 12t , street and avenue "D"; We will put a hydrant at our door with hose and will flush and wash this pavement off daily and keep sane in ood clean sanitary condition. With this improvement we ask that we be allowed to keep our wagons during business hours at our side door as before: The removal of same by your body has worked severe hardship on us as we have no access to our back yard, and no way of approaching our store except from the side on 12th street, keep our stock during business hours. Again asking that you allow us to fix the street as ab ve can keep it in a good sanitary condition, so that we ca- keep side door se before. The following Communication was read; "!lotion carried". ST.Auguetine Fla, August 28t°.., 1908. Change of grade for }otel Co. Spur., - Mr. H. }I..Adams, City Clerk, Miami Fla. Dear Sir;- Rerering furtner be your letter of July 3rd in regard to change of grade desired by the City of Miami at Avenue "D" I have nad our Engineering Hep'rtment-look into this matter, and am just in receipt of their report to the effect that to lower the grade as you desire, ac- cording to profiles submitted by Mr.Bauer would cause a very •eavy cut nn this line and would so lower the grade of the railroad traci.- as to cause a great ex- pense both to t'.e City as well as ourselves, not commensurate with the object of drainage to be obtained. I understand that there is a 24 inch ator sewer also an 6 inch storm sewer along the line of Avenue "D" emptying into the Tiler, if this sewer is kept open tt 305 for the free passage of storm water it would carry ott every a very large volume during stormo; if however, the present sewer does not satisfactorily drain Avenue "D", a 24 inch pipe could be put in at a much lees expense than the plan ,proposed, both for the City and the railroad. We are of course willing to do ghat is necessary in such matters, but the con-; ditione are such that we hardly thing the City of Miami would want such an unalg- nr.ly depression along our tracks ant throug;z the streets as would be necessary by making the change in grade as called for by the profile submitted. Yours truly, J.R.Perrott, Vice-Prea.,and Gen'1., Manager.; .
