Rockland Palace was one of the famous
night spots in the earlier days of "Little
Broadway," together with Harlem
Square, the Mary Elizabeth Hotel's
Zebra Lounge and Flamingo Room, and
Sir John Hotel's Knight Beat. The Palace
as popular in the late 1920s and
1930s.

Built-in 1913 by Georgia businessman
Geder Walker, the Lyric Theater was
considered among the finest Black
theaters in the South. It anchored
Overtown's Little Broadway for
decades. In 1988, the Black Archives
Foundation acquired the building and
restored the theater to its former glory.
The Lyric Theater, Mary Elizabeth Hotel,
Harlem Square, Rockland Palace,
among other venues, attracted Black
and white visitors to Overtown.
