Southeast Overtown / Park West Community Redevelopment Agency Food Truck Enterprise Program Funding Proposal & Budget Program Overview NANA is seeking funding from the Southeast Overtown / Park West Community Redevelopment Agency to offer a Food Truck Enterprise Program (("FTEP") to residents of the Overtown community. Overtown residents enrolled in the FTEP will have the opportunity to compete to lease or purchase a food truck through NANA. The Food Truck Enterprise Program ("FTEP") is a partnership between Neighbors and Neighbors Association ("NANA"), Miami Dade College Hospitality Institute, and The Circle of Brotherhood. NANA directs and manages the FTEP, subcontracting with Miami Dade College Hospitality Institute to deliver the food truck skills training and the Circle of Brotherhood to deliver the work readiness training. Program History The first FTEP, funded by Miami Dade County, began on September 13, 2021 and will end on December 17, 2021. Twenty-nine students are enrolled from zip codes 33136, 33127, 33142, 33147 and 33150. Classes are held at the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus. Miami -Dade County has provided funding to NANA to purchase three food trucks that the FTEP students will be competing for. In December 2021, the current class of FTEP students will participate in a culinary competition and a business plan competition that will be judged by a panel of college, community and industry experts. The three finalists with the highest cumulative scores will be given the choice of either purchasing or leasing a food truck from NANA. NANA will provide assistance and working capital to the three finalists to start their food truck businesses. Proposed Food Truck Enterprise Program for Overtown The proposed FTEP for Overtown residents consists of a total of 12 weeks / 240 hours of instruction. The classroom training will take place on the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus. Classes will be taught by experienced Miami Dade College instructors, expert industry trainers, and Circle of Brotherhood coaches. The Overtown FTEP includes 4 weeks of work readiness training delivered by the Circle of Brotherhood, followed by 8 weeks of entrepreneurship, sales and marketing, finance and accounting, HR and OSHA, food truck operations, food safety and sanitation, restaurant service, customer service, management and employability skills delivered by Miami Dade College. Students in the Overtown FTEP will compete for one food truck. The competition finalist will be given the choice of leasing or purchasing the food truck from NANA, plus assistance with business start-up including $5000 working capital.
