Over the decades, the area declined economically due to mi on of middle-class Blacks and the construction of I-95 and I-395 that bisected the community recent years there have been efforts to preserve the historical churches and the Lyric Theatre a ' • revitalize the entire Overtown area. "PROBLEM" Overtown is faced with a u ' - situation when it comes to employment, not only are the residents faced with high unemploy ► t and underemployment. Overtown has a recidivism problem, when we hear the word RECID we often think about the revolving doors of crime in our community, whereby men, women children are caught up in the cycle of the criminal justice system. They commit crimes, go t► . it and serve time in jail, get out of jail and sadly, but often find themselves committing anoth: rime and falling back into the cycle of RECIDIVISM.
